Brockenhurst College has an opportunity for a Lecturer in Art and Design to join their dedicated and enthusiastic team on a part-time basis to cover maternity leave. In return, you will receive a competitive salary of £31,930 to £42,454 pro rata per annum DOE. (Unqualified teachers £25,297 to £31,930 pro rata per annum.) We are a high-achieving college who attract around 2,800 sixth form students across the region each year. We are based within the stunning New Forest National Park and offer our students a huge range of courses and superb facilities.

About the role:

As the Lecturer in Art and Design you will continually improve the learning experience and achievement of students through effective teaching. Responsibilities will include:

  • Teaching on courses as agreed with the Head of Curriculum, BTEC Level 3 Art and Design, and CTEC Level 2 Art and Design, although courses may be subject to change within Art and Design.
  • Providing pastoral support where required.
  • Acting as Course Leader, when requested.
  • Preparing and marking student work, monitoring progress towards individual targets, keeping records and providing timely reports/reviews to students, parents, employers and College managers, as appropriate.
  • Working closely with other colleagues to respond to the needs of students.
  • Paying due attention to the principles of inclusive learning including individual learning styles, support for students with learning difficulties and disabilities, extension resources/activities for students of higher ability, and general resources, including the use of Information Learning Technology.
  • Contributing to the design, delivery and future planning and development of the curriculum.
  • Contributing to the teaching/learning resource bank for the relevant subject/course.
  • Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of developments in the relevant subject/course.
  • Developing and maintaining effective external links related to the delivery of the subject/course and representing the College at relevant meetings.
  • Organising and participating in relevant visits, field trips etc.
  • Attending and contributing to relevant meetings, including Enrolment/Open Events and Parents' Evening, as appropriate.
  • Advising and assisting the Head of Department and other team members in all matters related to the delivery of subject specialisms.
  • Participating, as a team member, in the development of teaching methods and strategies towards an ethos of continuous improvement.
  • Contributing to the self-assessment process and taking responsibility for relevant actions and targets in the development plan for the curriculum area.
  • Participating in the College's Lesson Observation Scheme.
  • Undertaking professional development and training to contribute to individual and College development.
  • Undertaking such duties as may be reasonably requested from time to time.

As our Lecturer in Art & Design, you'll ideally have:

  • A Degree or equivalent professional qualification in the relevant subject area.
  • Appropriate teacher training qualification (or working towards this).
  • Excellent teaching skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Art & Design Theory, knowledge and delivery of theoretical units on vocational programmes essentials.
  • High level practical skills in the areas of Art and Design.
  • Able to develop effective learning resources.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current developments in the Art and Design area.
  • Knowledge of appropriate health and safety requirements.
  • Supportive and positive approach to teaching.
  • Empathy with and a strong commitment to meeting the needs of individual students.
