Are you a dynamic and forward-thinking pharmacist, committed to optimising the use of healthcare system resources? If so, an exciting opportunity has arisen to join the commissioning team at Barts Health NHS Trust as the Clinical Commissioning Pharmacist. We are looking for an ambitious individual who will deliver value for money from medicines use. They will work collaboratively with the London Specialised Commissioning Team (SCT) NHS England (NHSE), Barts Health NHS Trust, and North-East London (NEL) ICS colleagues to promote patient safety, achieve better outcomes, and improve value from the use of High-Cost Drugs (HCDs).
The post holder will ensure appropriate implementation and monitoring of HCDs, demonstrating excellent leadership skills, and should be confident in working with and influencing senior colleagues including finance, commissioners, and clinicians. Working closely with the pharmacy systems analyst, they will also help improve data quality and accuracy of HCD data. As a key member of the NEL Sub-regional Immunoglobulin assessment panel, they have a pivotal role in ensuring appropriate Immunoglobulin stewardship.

Key Responsibilities:- Identifying and facilitating the implementation of QIPP / improving value and medicines optimisation programmes for high-cost drugs and sharing schemes with other local trusts to ensure consistency across the health economy.
- Implementing and managing the processes for approval, appropriate use, and audit of high-cost medicines associated with specialised services.
- Ensuring that treatments supported by NICE Technology Appraisal Guidance (TAG) and the Clinical Priorities Advisory Group (CPAG) for NHSE commissioned HCDs are implemented within the Trust according to the published recommendations.
- Providing professional and independent advice to the London SCT pharmacy lead, Barts Health Lead Pharmacist, Medicines Commissioning & Pathways pharmacist, and other system partners and Trust directorates to ensure relevant financial and implementation issues for NICE TAGs/CPAG policies are identified early.
- Supporting the SCT pharmacy lead and Barts Health Lead Pharmacist, Medicines Commissioning & Pathways pharmacist during business planning and contracting processes for HCDs, including the adoption of commissioning policies and protocols for high-cost treatments outside NICE recommendations.
- Providing leadership and support to the Sub Regional Immunoglobulin assessment panel (SR-IAP).
