We are looking for a Senior VAT Manager to join the Group Tax team in London. You will be part of the indirect tax team working collaboratively to manage indirect tax globally, ensuring compliance, optimising tax efficiencies and advising on VAT related issues. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of VAT regulations and experience of managing complex tax projects in the financial services industry.
The Group Tax team is made up of 30 professionals operating across multiple locations with most of the team being based in London.
What you’ll do:
- Lead and manage indirect tax operations across the EMEA region, ensuring compliance with VAT regulation.
- Develop and implement VAT strategies that align with business objectives and optimise tax efficiencies.
- Provide practical and commercial advice on VAT-related issues, including transaction analysis and structuring.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external advisors to address VAT implications of our various business activities.
- Monitor legislative changes and advise on potential impacts to the organisation.
- Conduct regular reviews and audits to identify opportunities for VAT savings and risk mitigation.
- Prepare documentation and analysis of material indirect tax positions taken and decisions made.
- Train and mentor junior tax team members, fostering their development and expertise in VAT matters.
- Support the Group Tax team in cross functional projects and strategic initiatives.
- Work with the Head of Group Tax to manage relationships with tax authorities on indirect tax matters.
The knowledge, experience and qualifications you need:
- A recognised professional tax qualification (e.g. ACA, CTA or equivalent).
- Relevant experience of working in professional services or industry.
- In depth understanding of VAT regimes.
- Experience in managing relationships with tax authorities.
- Ability to analyse complex financial data and transaction structures.
- Strong organisational skills to manage multiple projects and priorities concurrently.
- Ability to work effectively with cross functional teams, building relationships and facilitating collaboration.
- Proactive approach in taking responsibility for projects and decisions, driving them from initiation to successful completion.
- Experience of managing and developing teams.
- Use initiative to independently identify opportunities and challenges.
- Good knowledge of excel and Alteryx would be an advantage.
