Organisation: Grand Central Reporting to: Director – Grand Central Location: York, Wakefield or Sunderland – with travel required to Crofton and Tyne Yard. On Call Required: Yes About Us: We are an open-access train operator linking the North East and West Yorkshire with London, which means we don\’t get any sort of help from the government and our only loyalty is to our customers – it\’s in our interest to give you the best journey possible. We\’ve been connecting London Kings Cross, Yorkshire and the North East since 2007. Calling at the smaller stations means we\’re always looking to be active in the local community, through our various social responsibility programs and helping local organisations. The Role: As the Head of Fleet, you will ensure the provision of safe, reliable, functional and well-presented trains maintained by third party suppliers. We currently operate with 10 class 180 and 2 class 221’s. What You’ll Do: Ensure fleet vehicles are safe, functional, reliable and in good aesthetic condition. Develop the Grand Central fleet strategy and lead the implementation of any cascaded/new rolling stock into GC. Critically review and approve all technical and maintenance changes proposed for the fleet. Ensure that maintenance and overhaul work is done in accordance with GC Safety Management Systems, Vehicle Maintenance Instructions and Industry Standards. Direct and manage the commercial arrangements with ROSCO’s, Maintainers (via DAA), material suppliers, and technical support organisations. Provide expert advice and guidance on maintenance and engineering standards where required. Act diligently and make sound decisions in accordance with relevant legislation, industry standards and GC procedures. Act as the custodian of the Fleet Safety Management System procedures. Set the Fleet audit and safety plans and ensure corrective actions are addressed as required. Review any industry safety alerts (e.g. NIRs and Product Safety Bulletins) or reports and agree any changes, action or improvements needed to GC practices or processes. Ensure that safety critical suppliers are accredited in accordance with the SMS. Produce fleet budgets and monitor adherence accordingly of inputs and outputs. Continuously evaluate maintainer performance to ensure safe, reliable, efficient and cost-effective fleet engineering services are provided to a high standard of quality (both technically and cosmetically). Undertake inspections, audits and investigations and direct fleet improvement plans. Direct and manage the requirements for Fleet “on-call” provision. Full job description available on request What You Bring: Qualifications – recognised engineering qualification at Degree/HND level or equivalent Chartered Engineer Status (or working towards) Experience – substantial experience working within a Fleet Management role with the ability to manage third party maintenance arrangements Knowledge – strong knowledge of The Railways and Other Guided Transport Systems (Safety) Regulations. Skills – ability to undertake investigations, strong communication skills. Customer Centric – has a clear understanding of the needs of the passengers and train crew in how trains should be presented. Safety – strong safety culture and knowledge of industry safety protocols with experience of working in a regulated industry.
