We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Physiotherapist to take on the role of Spinal Team Lead within our dynamic Outpatient Physiotherapy Service. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the spinal physiotherapy team from a managerial perspective, supporting clinical development in collaboration with the Spinal Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist, and working closely with colleagues across the Trust to enhance the spinal patient pathway. Main duties of the job:

  • Provide skilled and effective leadership for the spinal team within outpatient physiotherapy, ensuring the delivery of a high quality, evidence based service.
  • Manage a complex caseload of spinal patients using highly specialist physiotherapy knowledge and skills as an autonomous practitioner.
  • Provide an effective high quality service to all outpatients and oversee the supervision and teaching of physiotherapists and students in the spinal team and outpatient department, as per policy.
  • Be responsible for service development, implement policy and policy changes in own clinical area and set and monitor standards of practice.
  • Work within the wider multidisciplinary team (MDT) to monitor and improve the spinal patient pathway, including organising and implementing changes as appropriate.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities:

  • Be responsible for the efficient, effective and safe physiotherapy management of all patients within speciality.
  • Be responsible as an autonomous practitioner to undertake a significant specialist clinical workload and use clinical reasoning skills to utilise a wide range of treatment skills and options to formulate a specialised programme of care.
  • Be responsible for the coordination and undertaking of complex clinical procedures specific to speciality.
  • Provide patients, families and carers with specialist advice and/or instruction, to increase their understanding of their condition and the aims of physiotherapy.
  • Develop and maintain close working relationships with members of the MDT.
  • Provide day to day management of the team within your speciality.
  • Plan and prioritise own workload both clinical and managerial including responding to urgent referrals and unpredictable workload and assist the team with theirs.
  • Play an active role in the education of the MDT, patients and carers, providing patient information, advice and support.

Person specification:

Qualifications:

  • Essential criteria: BSc or equivalent in Physiotherapy, Evidence of relevant spinal CPD post graduate courses.
  • Desirable criteria: MSc level study in spinal specialism.

Experience:

  • Essential criteria: Relevant B6 experience in MSK Outpatient Physiotherapy, Relevant line management experience of qualified physiotherapists.
  • Desirable criteria: Previous B7 Outpatient Physiotherapy Experience, Spinal team rotation completed at B6 level.

Skills:

  • Essential criteria: Excellent organisational skills, Excellent management skills, Excellent communication skills.
  • Desirable criteria: Excellent clinical skills especially with spinal patients.
