Dorset Software is a leading provider of digital consultancy services. We deliver innovative software development programmes to a range of high-profile clients spanning multiple industries. As a Developer, you’ll be a key member of our consulting services team working on a range of assignments using all the latest tools and technologies, and assisting our high-profile clients, such as Waitrose, the NHS Resolution and WorldPay.

You’ll become proficient in a wide range of skills including cloud infrastructure, programming, application engineering and testing. Through practical hands-on experience and ongoing training, you’ll be continually expanding your knowledge and developing new skills. After 2 years, you'll gain a government accredited qualification in Software Development. Once you’ve completed your initial training, you’ll work either in-house or at client sites across the UK delivering exceptional service and building on your knowledge.

A snapshot of a typical day may look a little like this:

  • Reviewing a client’s system to make sure you know their product inside and out
  • Using your technical knowledge and problem-solving skills to write top quality code
  • Testing the software to ensure it’s working as intended
  • Building a new Cloud data platform in AWS and Google Cloud
  • Continuing to learn about relevant tools and technologies

We don’t expect any specific IT experience, nor do we expect you to work for nothing - so before you’re assigned a live client project you’ll get the chance to learn all the necessary skills while getting paid.

Here’s what you can expect:

  • 5 months' full time training covering all aspects of software development, including programming, testing, application engineering and cloud computing
  • Your first 12 months spent in Poole, before relocating to our Edinburgh office
  • Continued supported training for 2 years, leading to a government accredited qualification in Software Development
  • A designated trainer to help you through the course
  • Access to further resources to build your knowledge base
  • A friendly, collaborative culture with like-minded colleagues

Requirements:

  • At least a 2:1 undergraduate degree or a PhD in STEM subject, plus an excellent academic background
  • A passion for technology and motivation to quickly develop a wide range of development skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A methodical approach to problem solving, with excellent time management skills

Salary of £27,680 during initial training, rising to £31,780 on completion. 5 months full time training at our dedicated Training Centre.
