Your initial project: The Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) have appointed Laing O'Rourke to a new alliance to build Single Living Accommodation (SLA) for the Armed Forces. The alliance will see 16,000 new bedspaces built as part of a wider MOD plan to build or refurbish 40,000 SLA bedspaces over the next decade.
As dedicated Senior Environment Advisor for this programme, you will join the project team based in our Sale office and provide both remote and in-person support across other SLA projects nationwide.
Responsibilities include:
- Play an active role in pushing the boundaries of sustainability, helping to achieve our ambition to be a net zero company.
- Ensure work packages are delivered in accordance with contractual, client and our EMS requirements.
- Identify environmental risks and opportunities at both pre-construction and delivery stage and engage project, design and delivery teams to appropriately manage them.
- Identify and obtain environmental consents liaising with relevant statutory bodies.
- Engage the workforce on environmental issues, including reviewing, advising, and delivering environmental training.
- Develop and maintain Construction Environmental Management Plans, identifying relevant risks and opportunities and associated mitigation measures.
- Monitor and report on our environmental performance and regularly undertake inspections.
- Ensure environmental emergency arrangements are implemented and tested as appropriate and report and investigate environmental incidents and non-conformances and subsequent corrective actions.
- Promote and drive environmental initiatives aligned with our sustainability strategy, such as carbon reduction, waste minimisation and the protection of nature.
About You:
- A passionate, collaborative and influential environment champion within the construction industry.
- Technically familiar with environmental processes and assessments e.g. BREEAM and DREAM.
- Degree qualified in relevant discipline e.g. Environmental Management/Sciences or Sustainability, with professional body membership (IEMA, IES or CIEEM) preferred.
- Understanding of ISO14001 and ISO50001 requirements and compliance management systems.
- Lead Environmental Auditor preferred.
- Willingness and ability to travel nationally, working across diverse teams and projects.
- Strategic mindset of innovation and change.
- High level of personal drive and commitment, with the enthusiasm to learn and progress.
