Summary: Reporting to the Recreation Therapist (Allied Health Lead), the Therapeutic Assistant will work cooperatively and collaboratively with the inter-professional team to carry out the individual’s intervention plan. The therapeutic assistant provides support to the resident and inter-professional team members using therapeutic interventions, facilitation techniques, and participation in leisure/recreation programming in a 1:1 or group setting. Qualifications: Diploma from an accredited post-secondary educational institution 2 year Therapeutic Recreation Diploma Assets: Dementia: Understanding the Journey Course Current Non Violent Crisis Intervention Certification Understanding of person and family-centered care as it relates to a continuing care population Demonstrated knowledge of behavioral intervention techniques Understanding of working within a care team as an approach to providing resident care Strong leadership and interpersonal skills Knowledge of ABI, stroke, dementia, and mental health as well as persons living in LTC Demonstrated ability to engage residents in therapeutic interventions Responsibilities: As per the Therapeutic Assistant job description. Salary / Benefits: As per the Northwood scale.
