Clinical Nurse Specialist - Neuro-Oncology

We are recruiting for a Clinical Nurse Specialist to work with the Neuro Oncology team and who shares our vision to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients. This exciting role will give you the opportunity to contribute to the specialist care and management of patients, who are having treatment within MVCC. You will gain a valuable insight into supporting patients at diagnosis and through the cancer pathway, including on and post treatment and when disease recurs or advances.

Main duties of the job:

• Assessment, planning, implementing and evaluating care, as an autonomous practitioner with specialist skills.
• Where applicable and qualified as a Nurse Independent Prescriber, prescribe any drugs within clinical competencies.
• You will work closely with the Clinical Oncologists and the wider MDT.
• Act as a key worker for patients.
• Provide specialist knowledge and support to patients by phone or in person while in clinic.
• Have the ability to carry out holistic needs assessments with patients at specific time points within their journey.

Person specification:

Qualifications/Training:

• Registered Nurse educated to Degree level or willingness to undertake.
• Evidence of continuous professional development.
• Teaching Qualification.
• Advanced communication skills/counselling qualification or willingness to undertake.
• Advanced clinical assessment.
• Research module masters Degree.

Previous Experience:

• Significant relevant experience in the speciality and ability to demonstrate expert nursing skills.
• Accept personal accountability for own practice.
• Experience of formal/informal teaching.
• Experience of initiating change.
• Understanding of evidence based practice.
• Understanding of clinical governance.
• Understanding of patient pathways its complexities and how to support the patient through this.
