Our client is seeking an Enterprise Systems Manager to oversee the delivery and management of desktop, server, and infrastructure support services across the organisation. This role is responsible for maintaining optimal system performance, managing a skilled technical team, and ensuring the organisation’s technology environment is secure, reliable, and scalable. The manager will lead the deployment, monitoring, and maintenance of hardware and software systems while implementing best practices for system administration and end-user support.
Key Accountabilities:
- Leading a team of experienced application, system and cloud specialists.
- Overseeing the deployment, configuration, and maintenance of desktop and laptop hardware, operating systems, and applications and ensuring that they meet security, performance and compliance standards.
- Leading the planning and implementation of large-scale hardware/software upgrades and migrations and establishing standards for asset management, including inventory tracking and lifecycle management.
- Responsibility for the management and maintenance of physical and virtual servers, ensuring high availability and performance and taking ownership of patch management, backups, disaster recovery, and business continuity strategies for server infrastructure.
- Monitoring server capacity and performance, planning upgrades to meet future organisational needs.
- Management of Active Directory, group policies, file shares, and other core services.
- Overseeing and delivering the move from on-prem to cloud services.
- Ensuring that desktop and server environments adhere to cybersecurity best practices and regulatory requirements, including the management of antivirus, endpoint protection, and vulnerability scanning tools, plus collaboration with IT security on major incidents and prevention measures.
- Implementing ITIL best practice for incident, problem and change management.
- Work closely with IT leadership and cross-functional teams to align IT systems with business needs.
- Lead IT infrastructure projects, including server migrations, network upgrades, and new technology implementations to support transformation change in a legacy environment.
Experience required:
- Experience in IT systems administration, including team leadership experience.
- Knowledge of server technologies, including Windows Server, Linux, Active Directory, and virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
- Experience of managing desktop operating systems and enterprise applications.
- Knowledge of backup and disaster recovery solutions.
- Familiarity with endpoint management tools and monitoring platforms.
- Experience of ITIL best practice.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills.
- The ability to lead multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong commercial acumen and strategic thinking, coupled with the ability to build excellent business relationships including at exec level.
