Job Responsibilities

  • Assist in the duties of Clerk, Office Assistant, and/or Patient Services Coordinator, Level I, including:
  • Assist in the orientation and training of new support staff members.
  • Understand managed care plans, HMOs, and unusual coverages; provide information to patients regarding eligibility for procedures.
  • Ensure practice employees understand insurances and appraise patients of insurance eligibility.
  • Handle fiscal procedures such as managed care procedures, patient billing problems, ICD-9 coding accuracy, and self-payer billing.
  • Oversee shift-specific cash control issues, including closing batches, depositing cash, etc.
  • Act as liaison between the practice and Hospital departments, particularly the MGPO.
  • Serve as a liaison for patients regarding all Hospital services, including financial information.
  • Coordinate and track HMO visits and referrals.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff to determine needs and resolve problems.
  • Troubleshoot customer service issues.
  • Establish office systems and prepare procedure manuals/insurance handbooks as needed.
  • Handle inventory maintenance and supply ordering.
  • Perform other practice-specific duties appropriate to this level of position.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma
  • Epic experience preferred
  • Typing speed of 55 to 65 WPM required
  • Word processing skills required
  • Knowledge of spreadsheets and database systems
  • Good command of English language
  • Experience with Dictaphone preferred
  • Ability to work independently and prioritise tasks
  • In-depth understanding of medical coverages
