The key purpose of the compliance lead is to manage/carry out activities relating to a number of key field engineering accountabilities within the Network Services Field Engineering team. The role holder will support a number of geographical patches to deliver Health & Safety priorities, including the delivery of safety checks/sign off for engineers. They will also be required to support the delivery of legal compliance/audit activities, ensuring that their given geographical area successfully achieves the standards required for multiple ISO accreditations. The role will be directly accountable for environmental/waste targets in their area, ensuring the completion of site waste activity and periodic environmental site checks. This role is based in Hereford or the surrounding areas and involves regular travel and the role holder will be required to have a drivers licence.
You’ll have the following responsibilities:
- Health & Safety regional lead: Responsible for carrying out and renewing specialist safety (AMS) checks for the regional engineering teams. Responsible for completion of corrective actions raised via H&S site auditing in-region. Involvement & support with: Lost Time Incidents (LTIs), near miss/hazard reports including corrective actions, recommendations/best practice sharing. Reporting at a regional level on H&S – Updates/briefings/incidents/regional statistics.
- ISO Accreditation/Audit support: Responsible for the support of site audits relating to ISO 14001/27001/45001 accreditations – including site visits/joint meets & audit preparation. Co-ordination of DL resource and/or third party contractors in preparation for site auditing based on local requirements. Supporting resolution of remedial/corrective works as a result of audit activity.
- Site Environment lead/Environmental advisor: Accountable for the completion of all Tier 1/2/3 site environmental checks in-region – through either direct delivery or arranging onsite activity. Completion of all relevant Networks corrective action identified during SEL checks. Submission of relevant work orders for cross-LOB corrective actions.
- Facilities & building fabric SPOC: Escalation & internal ownership of facilities issues via BT Property/CBRE. Collation of patch-specific building fabric & site related safety/environmental issues, tracking of progress, and owning to resolution.
- Waste Management: Accountable for regional delivery of all required waste management activities. Regional reporting on waste management progress & compliance. Best practice/CI approach to delivery of waste management in a challenging operational environment.
- Engineering Operational Support: Providing analysis/reporting and action plans at a regional/patch level when required for program specific delivery plans. Support the regional engineering team with day to day operational requirements; i.e. Tester/Asset management, ad-hoc safety requirements, joint site visits.
You’ll have the following skills and experience:
- Ideally you will have a background in compliance or health and safety, if you are NEBOSH trained, that would be advantageous.

- Experience of working or managing in an engineering environment.
- A good working knowledge of Health, Safety, and environmental controls in an engineering environment.
- Technical skills held include Excel, PowerPoint, data interpretation & visualisation, metric & process knowledge, problem solving ability.
- Analytical & Reporting Skills – the role will involve presenting at a regional/patch level, requiring basic analytic/presentation skills.
