About the Opportunity
Our Independent Nuclear Assurance (INA) team has been supporting the Ministry of Defence’s (MoD) naval nuclear propulsion programme for over 60 years. A number of exciting opportunities have arisen to join this diverse team of highly experienced staff who provide a key role in supporting the safe operation of the UK’s submarine fleet. As a Nuclear Technical Engineer you will work within our dynamic, customer facing INA team, delivering Independent Assurance services to MoD. This includes the provision of independent nuclear safety and technical advice in support of both in-service operational Naval Reactor Plant (NRP) and future designs, working with a wide range of technical disciplines to provide balanced and proportionate advice.
We are seeking personnel at all levels of experience who are passionate about nuclear safety and a desire to work in support of some of the most complex, challenging and important projects within the UK. This work requires knowledge of the design and operation of NRP, safety case development and methodologies, and the ability to communicate with MoD personnel and their stakeholders. We are particularly interested in individuals with an aptitude and enthusiasm for mechanical systems and structural integrity. For those in their early career, appointment of Assistant Nuclear Technical Engineers will be considered and comprehensive training will be provided. For those with more experience we can offer new challenges and further development opportunities. Not only is this a great opportunity for ex-RN Operators who wish to continue to contribute to the naval nuclear propulsion programme, we are interested to hear from Engineers from civil nuclear or other high hazard industries.
Our main office is in Birchwood, Warrington, however we work flexibly and will consider alternative locations to base staff. While we are primarily looking for full time staff we will also consider other flexible working patterns for the right candidates.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provision of Independent Nuclear Safety Assessment (INSA) and Independent Technical Assessment (ITA) of nuclear safety cases and their supporting technical documents issued in support of NRP throughout its lifecycle.
- Co-ordinating advice across a range of technical disciplines to ensure that MoD are provided with impartial, authoritative, balanced and proportionate assessments and advice.
- Being the point of contact for the customer, attending relevant safety and technical meetings on behalf of INA.
- Conducting all work in accordance with the INA Quality Assurance Programme.
- Complying with information security requirements.
- Delivering to meet agreed programmes and budgets.
Qualifications:
- Degree or equivalent professional training in science or engineering.
- Knowledge/operational experience of nuclear reactor plants or safety cases in other high hazard industry.
- Knowledge of the Naval Reactor Plant or other high hazard industry.
- Excellent consultancy/communication skills and the ability to work directly and effectively with the customer.
- Ability to work effectively across a range of tasks and liaise with personnel from multiple technical disciplines.
- Enthusiasm and aptitude for clear and concise technical writing is important.
Our client requires that you are a UK Citizen as security clearance to at least SC will be required.
