Black Duck is seeking a Software Engineering Manager / Scrum Master (SEM) to lead the development of its open source management solution. The SEM will provide leadership across functional teams and subject matter experts in planning, development, and implementation of roadmap goals. Responsibilities include creating, maintaining, and managing a development plan that tracks deliverables and resources across multiple workstreams. The SEM will drive the execution of the plan, ensuring all timelines and deliverables are met, and will manage communications with cross-functional team members and senior management in Engineering, QA, and Product Management.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide hands-on direction to a software engineering team, collaborating with product management and architecture leads to deliver agreed-upon roadmap items.
  • Drive the delivery of engineering deliverables across multiple development organizations.
  • Serve as the scrum master, leading cross-functional teams including development, user experience, and quality assurance.
  • Partner with Product Management to ensure successful product delivery from conception to release.
  • Communicate engineering release health, issues, and risks to stakeholders at various levels within the organization.
  • Proactively manage engineering risks and issues to mitigate or eliminate undesirable impacts.
  • Serve as the primary communication mechanism within the development team, ensuring timely and accurate information exchange.
  • Build strong partnerships across the organization.
  • Take initiative as a technical problem solver, identifying and resolving technical issues and challenges.
Key requirements:
  • Provide leadership to achieve high software engineering standards, including quality, security, stability, and scalability.
  • 5-7 years of experience mentoring and growing successful engineering teams.
  • Continuously improve tools and best practices for development activities.
  • Utilize agile and iterative approaches to manage development efforts.
  • Demonstrate high levels of leadership and accountability.
  • Collaborate with team members to promote productivity and effectiveness.
  • Experience with project management best practices and methodologies.
  • Experience in software development and management.
  • Experience with Agile software methodologies.
  • Experience managing technology deliverables and application portfolios.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills with the ability to drive day-to-day activities.
  • Knowledge of JIRA, Confluence, and other Program Management tools.
  • Open source software experience preferred.
  • Ability to work and solve problems both as part of a team and independently.
  • Demonstrate relentless follow-up and follow-through.
  • Hire, manage, and develop a professional staff of engineers.
