Primary Role: The Role focuses on supporting identified students in the classroom and in the Extended Learning department, including the CONNECT provision for students with social and emotional mental health needs, and close collaboration with teaching staff to support learning and behaviour.
Responsibilities
- Support identified students in the classroom and in the Extended Learning department, including physiotherapy and hydrotherapy sessions as part of CONNECT, the academy’s on-site provision for students with SEMH needs.
- Work closely with teaching staff to address students’ needs and provide strategies to help pupils progress.
- Support learning and behaviour for individuals and groups as directed.
- Contribute to the corporate life of the Trust and project a positive image of the Trust.
- Collaborate with Trust colleagues to contribute to teaching quality, achievement and behaviour for all students, encouraging self-esteem and progress.
- Support the efficient and safe use of resources in line with Trust policies.
- Contribute to the production, monitoring and review of resources and action plans.
- Develop skills to meet the requirements of the post and respond flexibly to needs of the Trust and identified students with SEND.
- Build mutual confidence and respectful working relationships with all.
- Act as a role model, challenge and motivate, promote self-esteem and productive student relationships.
- Commit to equality of opportunity for pupils and ensure safeguarding is observed.
- Keep senior staff, the line manager, SENCO and relevant teaching staff informed about each student’s progress and ensure support aligns with Trust policies and practice.
Main Duties
- Focus on a target group of pupils to improve attainment and behaviour.
- Provide information to senior staff about students needing support to identify interventions.
- Work with staff to develop and implement action support and interventions for students with SEND, including those in CONNECT.
- Offer 1:1 or group opportunities to help students achieve targets; maintain regular family contact where appropriate.
- Collaborate with the SENCO and Class Teacher to plan for needs and ensure appropriate support.
- Monitor, evaluate and report on the success of interventions and support the SENCO.
- Engage in appropriate INSET identified by the Trust.
- Ensure safeguarding and welfare of children in line with policy.

Qualifications
- GCSE English and Math grade C+ or grade 4+ or equivalent (Desirable).
Skills and Experience
- Experience of working with children (Essential).
- Experience in play schemes, creches, midday supervision, after-school clubs or similar (Desirable).
- Currently working as a Learning Mentor or Teaching Assistant (Desirable).
- Experience supporting children with SEND, SEMH needs (Desirable).
- Experience supporting primary and/or secondary students with various needs including ADHD, PDA, ODD, trauma, and attachment-related difficulties (Desirable).
