NorthWest Arkansas Community College is seeking qualified applicants to establish a pool for part-time instructors in this discipline. Applications will be kept on file for the fiscal year ending June 30. When a position becomes available, the hiring department will review the applications on file. After each fiscal year end the application will expire and a new application must be completed to remain in the applicant pool.

Essential Duties

This role helps support a small, but growing program that has an award-winning student newspaper and an increased online presence. Most of the journalism and media classes provide some content for student media channels. Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to teach introductory journalism and media courses such as Media Writing, Media and Society, and News Reporting, and multimedia topics such as podcasting, social media content production, and digital journalism. Expertise in teaching the creation of audio and video journalism content is a plus. A demonstrated ability to collaborate with other faculty in the Communication and Arts School is highly preferred.

Rate of Pay

$765 per hour

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Experience with leadership at a community college or educational institution is a plus. Demonstrated teaching ability is the top priority. Instructional experience and leadership experience at a community college is a priority. The ideal candidate will have experience in, or the ability to use an online learning management system (LMS). Online delivery of instruction, use of technology for instruction, and experience or interest in project based, service learning, or inquiry-based learning will be given special consideration.

The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; and/or visual inspection at distances close to the eyes.

Required Qualifications

A master's degree in journalism or closely related field, or a master's degree with at least 18 graduate hours in journalism.

Preferred Qualifications

Three years of teaching experience is preferred. Ability to teach audio, video and multimedia journalism is strongly preferred.
