About The Role
Job Summary: Reporting to the Engineering Manager & working with the design team leads to manage the technical interface between the design team & other project stakeholders. As a business, we carry out a range of Substation, Transmission and Distribution design work from 11kV to 132kV, including Primary, Secondary, Protection & Control, Cable route, Civils, and Structures. The role responsibilities will primarily involve managing the design technical interface with specialist sub-contractors, client technical representatives, design authorities & construction teams. The role will be involved from the main design phase through to project completion. This includes managing the design review process (Hazop, IDR), liaising with specialist sub-contractors, interfacing with construction teams, conducting design compliance reviews of construction works, supervising temporary works design, and integrating constructability into our designs. You would also provide advice & guidance to the design team on civil engineering design & permits.
The ideal candidate will have an engineering background, be self-motivated, proactive in problem-solving, and experienced in project supervision within the power, engineering, or construction sectors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Engineering Manager & Team Leads with planning & controlling the design team, including managing design compliance review procedures.
- Leading constructability reviews within design.
- Managing technical interfaces with project stakeholders.
- Liaising with civil engineering design sub-contractors & providing civil support to the design team.
- Interfacing with construction teams, including site-based design compliance reviews & assisting in project completion.
- Supervising Temporary Works Design.
- Liaising with land consents & surveying sub-contractors, providing advice & guidance on land permits.
- Supporting the engineering team in developing, implementing, and monitoring business processes.
- Participating in periodic team & client meetings.
- Supporting site surveys & inspections.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience & Skills:
Qualifications: A degree and Chartered Status in Civil or Structural Engineering are preferred.
Experience: Extensive experience managing and delivering as a Principal Designer. Proven experience in managing site-based Temporary Works designs. Stakeholder management skills. Experience managing sub-contractors during design and delivery phases. Resource management & control experience. Project supervision & understanding of commercial issues. Knowledge of business & quality management processes. Familiarity with relevant British & international standards. Understanding of UK H&S standards, including CDM regulations.
Skills: Understanding of BIM processes. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Effective personal management, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities. Teamwork capability. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Email). Experience with CAD software (AutoCAD, Microstation) is advantageous but not essential. Ability to input data into Primavera P6. Full UK driving license.
