Sonia Friedman Productions is seeking applications for an Illusion and Magic Assistant to work on the 2025 London recast of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. This new play by Jack Thorne and directed by John Tiffany received its world premiere in Londonβs West End at the Palace Theatre in summer 2016. The critically acclaimed production is the most awarded West End play in the history of the Olivier Awards, winning a record-breaking nine awards including Best New Play and Best Director in 2017.
Your duties and responsibilities will be those normally expected of an Illusions and Magic Assistant on a first-class West End production. You will work closely with the International Illusions and Magic Associate, Illusions and Magic UK Associate, Associate Director, Associate Movement Director and Resident Team across recast, technical and understudy rehearsals, supporting them to execute illusions, manage props, and support the seamless integration of magic and illusion in live performances. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals passionate about the art of magic and theatre.
Key Dates:
- August β October Recast Rehearsals
- 6th October β 12th October Technical Rehearsals
- w/c 13th October Opening Week
- 20th October β 1st December 2025 Cover Rehearsals (two days per week)
Responsibilities will include:
- Assist the Illusions and Magic UK associate in rehearsing all magic and illusions during rehearsals, technical rehearsals and dress rehearsals.
- Work closely with performers and the production team during rehearsals, providing assistance with technical cues, prop handling and illusion execution.
- Ensure that all safety protocols and procedures are followed when handling illusions during rehearsals.
- Attending scheduling meetings, technical rehearsals and dress rehearsals to ensure illusions are correct, assisting the illusions team to make adjustments as needed during tech sessions.

- Strong problem-solving skills and quick thinking under pressure.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
