Job Purpose

Legal Business is looking for a talented news editor to drive its coverage of the commercial legal market.

Having initially been launched as a glossy magazine in 1990, today Legal Business is a must-read title for thousands of senior lawyers working in some of the largest law firms and in-house legal teams in the UK, US and other global financial centres.

Legal Business covers the key issues facing commercial law firms in depth. From management changes to mergers, strategic shifts to recruitment trends, Legal Business is the title senior professionals rely on for market insight, as well as to gauge the effectiveness of their firm and their rivals.

Leveraging research and client data from Legal 500, Legal Business provides unrivalled insight into not only the key private practice players in the market but what the GCs using them want from their law firms.

What’s more, in a crowded market, the annual Legal Business awards ceremony remains the undisputed ‘Oscars of the legal profession’.

As News Editor you would play a central role in our coverage, managing a team of reporters writing about a vital and dynamic part of the professional services market, helping Legal Business to break news ahead of the competition and provide valuable insight into a sector that is experiencing unprecedented change.

Knowledge of the legal market would be a plus but is not vital. More important is a strong news sense, plenty of ideas and enthusiasm, as well as experience writing and editing breaking news in a competitive environment.

Key responsibilities:

• Working closely with editor and data editor to ensure Legal Business is providing readers with the news and analysis they need on a daily basis
• Day-to-day management of news reporters
• Editing and posting daily news and analysis
• Sending news mailouts
• Meeting senior partners in the market
• Coming up with content ideas
• Writing

What We\’re Looking For

• Strong communication and networking skills, particularly with senior professionals
• A natural desire to break stories ahead of our competition
• Strong writing skills, with an ability to write and edit accurately and to deadline
• Ability and desire to speak to lawyers about a range of topics
• A collaborator and a good team player
• Interest in business news in general and the legal market specifically and ability to build understanding in these areas
