Data Centre Operator – Contract (12 months - Inside IR35)
Location: Cardiff
Start Date: 1st July 2025
End Date: 30th June 2026 (possible extension)
Shift Pattern: 12-hour day & night shifts (364 days/year; Christmas off)
We are seeking for a client a reliable and proactive Data Centre Operator to support the day-to-day operations of a high-availability data centre environment. This is a critical role ensuring the seamless operation of batch processing, system monitoring, and physical site management.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor systems and event-driven alerts via monitoring consoles.
- Respond to incidents, escalating to on-call teams or vendors as required.
- Run and monitor batch schedules using tools like Control-M and VisualCron.
- Manage weekend release scripts and support change deployments.
- Perform routine physical tasks (e.g., bulk printing, tape removal, temperature checks).
- Conduct regular patrols to validate site and system availability.
- Maintain strict adherence to security and access protocols.
Additional Responsibilities
- Support the Control-M scheduling environment.
- Analyse and resolve basic production issues.
- Apply schedule changes and maintain accurate reporting (daily, weekly, ad hoc).
- Keep operational documentation up to date and compliant.
Key Skills & Experience
- Proven background in IT operations and batch processing.
- Experience with job scheduling tools, ideally Control-M.
- Familiarity with Linux/UNIX, JCL, Korn shell scripting, and basic Oracle DB concepts.
- Root cause analysis skills and a service-focused mindset.
- Ability to work independently and in small technical teams.
- Knowledge of ITIL fundamentals is a plus.
