Department 4 SURGICAL – 206034 Worker Sub Type Regular Work Shift Pay Grade 135 Job Description The registered professional nurse is responsible for utilizing job skills to effectively carry out the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, evaluation, documentation, and time management. She/he is responsible for quality communication, teamwork, leadership, and professionalism. The nurse directs, coordinates, and implements patient teaching, quality and safety initiatives, and activities of other health team personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing. A Registered Nurse I (RN I) is responsible for the care of the assigned patient population. An RN I must complete yearly mandatory competencies, unit-specific competencies as identified by the Director/Designee, and meet Professional Practice Ladder requirements, which include: assuming responsibility as Charge Nurse, participating in PI activities and department initiatives, and engaging in educational activities such as seminars, workshops, or reading nursing articles. The portfolio must be current and submitted annually by March 1st. The RN I routinely solicits and validates patient/family satisfaction, participates in peer review, and develops educational materials for staff and patients. Education Associates in Nursing (RN Diploma, ASN or ADN) required Bachelor’s in Nursing (BSN) preferred Certification & Licensures RN License required BLS Certification (American Heart Association Healthcare Provider) required Relevant Specialty Certification preferred Additional Certification/Licensure Requirements: Must be licensed or eligible to practice as a Registered Nurse in Virginia, either via multi-state license under the Nurse Licensure Compact or a single-state license valid in Virginia. New hires must have AHA certification prior to completing orientation. Qualifications Competent in providing care based on human growth and development stages Competent in providing care utilizing the nursing process Reliable phone communication with the hospital required For new RN I hires or those promoted to RN I, must secure an Eligibility to Test Letter from the Virginia Board of Nursing or equivalent documentation, depending on residency and licensure status.
