Our public sector are looking for a Waste Management Supervisor to join them.
Location: Leicestershire
Pay Rate: £17ph
Job Purpose
This is a hands-on, field-based supervisory role responsible for supporting the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the Councils RHWSs and WTSs. The successful candidate will travel daily to sites across the network, delivering operational support, HR duties, training, and health and safety compliance oversight.
Key Responsibilities
- Human Resources & Staff Support
- Assist with onboarding of new staff including induction and orientation
- Conduct one-to-one check-ins, return-to-work interviews, and low-level policy discussions
- Monitor and support staff wellbeing and performance on site
- Training & Development
- Deliver training using physical workbooks and support e-learning initiatives
- Create and lead toolbox talks, safety briefings, and other structured training
- Identify training needs and support staff development
- Health, Safety & Compliance
- Enforce safe systems of work and site-specific risk assessments
- Support implementation and monitoring of the Councils Quality Management System
- Conduct regular site checks and audits to ensure compliance
- Issue, monitor, and maintain records for PPE and uniform allocation
- Wear and potentially operate a Body Worn Camera (BWC) as part of the Councils uniform requirements, unless exemptions apply
- Operational Duties
- Ensure accurate record-keeping for waste movements and reporting
- Support day-to-day site operations, including resolving low-level customer complaints (in person, by phone, or email)
- Drive a Council 3.5 tonne box van on an ad-hoc basis as operational needs require
Person Specification
Essential:
- Proven experience in a supervisory or leadership role, preferably in waste management or a similar operational field
- Strong understanding of health and safety practices and risk assessments
- Full UK driving licence with the ability to travel daily to multiple sites
- Confident communicator, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to manage and resolve low-level HR and customer service issues
- Comfortable delivering training and briefings to staff teams
Desirable:
- Experience delivering or coordinating staff training and toolbox talks
- Familiarity with waste management regulations and safe systems of work
- Previous experience working with or managing Quality Management Systems
- Manual handling and/or First Aid certification
Additional Information
- PPE and uniform will be provided, including a Body Worn Camera (BWC) which is a standard part of the field-based uniform
- Reasonable adjustments can be discussed in relation to PPE/BWC requirements
- This is an active role requiring frequent travel and presence at operational sites
