  • Location: Near Preston, Lancashire
  • Salary: £28,000 to £31,000 basic + benefits
  • Shift Options: Either – Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm – fully onsite (non-negotiable) OR Monday to Friday, 4pm to midnight – remote after initial training period onsite.

The Opportunity:

I'm recruiting an experienced Technical Support Engineer with solid Linux command line skills and hands-on experience in web hosting environments. You’ll need to have relevant exposure to cPanel and a good understanding of web hosting infrastructure. The company is a well-established hosting and cloud services provider, offering a stable, long-term role with full training and support from a friendly technical team.

This is not an entry-level position. You’ll need to be confident supporting customers and solving technical issues across shared hosting, DNS, SSL, email services and related systems.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Providing first and second line support to hosting customers via ticket and phone
  • Troubleshooting common issues across DNS, email, SSL, domains, backups and websites
  • Handling cPanel-based support queries and account migrations
  • Analysing server logs and monitoring alerts
  • Advising customers on basic self-management where relevant
  • Updating documentation and knowledge base content
  • Supporting abuse ticket handling and basic application-level issues

What You’ll Need to Have:

  • Strong experience working in a Linux environment using command line tools; alongside a good understanding of how shared hosting platforms work
  • Familiarity with DNS, SSL, IPs, email protocols, and basic firewall rules
  • cPanel experience at root/admin level
  • Ability to manage packages and build/install Linux software
  • Confident communication skills, both written and spoken
  • Able to work independently and as part of a small, remote-first team

Good to Have:

  • Bash, PHP or Perl scripting experience
  • Understanding of TCP/IP and basic networking
  • Familiarity with virtualisation technologies

Does this sound like you?

Send me your CV and I’ll be in touch.
