Asda is undergoing an exciting data transformation, placing insight and analytics at the heart of strategic decision-making. We are seeking an Insight & Analytics Manager to support high-impact, technically rich initiatives that deliver real business value across our commercial, customer, supply chain, and digital functions.

About the Role

In this role, you will shape and deliver advanced analytics, visual insights and commercial recommendations that influence decisions at every level of the organisation. You’ll be working in a hybrid cloud environment (Azure, Databricks), applying your skills to real challenges in areas like customer behaviour, operations, and digital journeys. You will also mentor and manage a team of talented insight professionals, helping to grow our analytical capabilities and foster a high-performance culture. We operate a matrix style squad structure. Over time you will be given the opportunity to work across multiple squads focused on a variety of strategic business projects. Initially focused on Ranging you will be accountable for the delivery of a suite of insight tools that support Asda’s ongoing ranging process and range decision making within the Commercial function. In this squad you will aspire to continually improve and extend the suite of tools available to meet the evolving needs of key stakeholders within Asda. You will demonstrate the capability & experience in explaining complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences and scoping business requirements into technical scopes, with a focus on ranging processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create Value Through Insight: Lead the development and delivery of analytics that solve strategic problems, quantify business value, and support major transformation initiatives.
  • Advanced Data Analytics: Oversee and apply statistical and analytical techniques to build models, validate hypotheses, and assess business performance — using SQL, Python, and cloud-based platforms (e.g. Azure, Databricks).
  • Lead with Purpose: Mentor and develop analysts while setting high standards of analytical quality, objectivity, and insight that directly influence business outcomes.
  • Engage & Influence Senior Stakeholders: Collaborate with senior leaders across departments to scope analytical opportunities, challenge assumptions, and embed data into the heart of decision-making.
  • Insight Generation: Translate complex datasets into accessible and actionable insights.
  • Enable Data-Driven Decisions: Drive the development of visual narratives using core analytical platforms that translate data into insight business users can act on.
  • Team Leadership: Possibility of direct line management and/or mentor analysts and data scientists, ensuring high-quality output and professional development.
  • Strategic Contribution: Lead analytics projects from concept to impact — aligning deliverables to business needs while ensuring clarity, reproducibility, and robustness in all outputs.
  • Provide thought and technical leadership in Analytics: Promote consistent analytical practices, peer learning, and a strong value mindset across the wider insight community at Asda.

Candidate Profile

Essential:

  • Proven experience leading analytics in a complex, data-driven environment, with advanced understanding of analytics methodologies.
  • Highly proficient in SQL for data analysis and for large-scale data manipulation and model building.
  • Strong ability to communicate complex analytical outputs to senior, non-technical stakeholders.
  • A track record of translating insight into commercial action and decision support.
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues across Insight & Analytics and allied functions such as Data Science, Reporting & Data Visualisation to deliver insights and regular reporting to help keep the business on track.
  • Experience managing or mentoring junior colleagues, setting clear expectations and driving performance.
  • Comfortable leading analytical projects autonomously, including scoping, delivery, and iteration.
  • Degree in a numerate or analytical field.

Desirable:

  • Experience using BI tools such as Power BI or Tableau and working knowledge of Python.
  • Proficient in statistical modelling techniques.
  • Background in retail, FMCG, or other data-rich industries.
