Role Overview
The Accounts Assistant will be a key member of the finance department, responsible for supporting the team in managing day-to-day accounting tasks. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with previous finance experience in a professional services or legal environment who is looking to join a reputable firm and grow within a supportive team.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with daily banking and bank reconciliations
- Processing supplier invoices and preparing payment runs
- Monitoring and reconciling client and office accounts in line with SRA Accounts Rules
- Handling client account transactions, including payments and receipts
- Preparing and issuing client bills under fee earner instruction
- Credit control and assisting with debt recovery processes
- Assisting with month-end procedures and financial reporting
- Maintaining accurate financial records and documentation
- Liaising with fee earners and partners regarding billing and account queries
- Supporting the Finance Manager with ad hoc tasks and projects
Requirements
- Previous experience in an accounting or finance support role
- Good understanding of accounting principles
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
- Strong organisational and communication skills
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
- Experience in any Accounting software, e.g. Sage, Xero, Liberate, SAP etc
- Experience working within a law firm or professional services environment
- Familiarity with SRA Accounts Rules
- Experience using legal accounting software (e.g., LEAP, SOS, or similar)
- AAT qualification or working towards it
