Corporate Lawyers Β¦ Banking & Finance Lawyers Β¦ Investment Funds Lawyers
Our offshore clients are growing across the Channel Islands, the Cayman Islands, Bermuda, and the British Virgin Islands. It has created a wealth of opportunities for strong lawyers with experience in high-value corporate, banking, or investment funds work.
If you are career minded, ambitious, and excited by the idea of making a life-changing move, there has perhaps never been a better time to consider the offshore world. Take a look at some of the key considerations below and get in touch if you would like to discuss further.
β
Elite level working environment.
The major offshore firms field teams of lawyers who are predominantly ex-Magic/Silver Circle or from the premier US, Australasian or international law firms. The culture and credentials are akin to anything you will see in the City; this is no step-down in class.
β
Complex, challenging and rewarding work.
You will be advising on the offshore elements of major international transactions. It is fast-moving and varied work, requiring the intellectual and commercial agility to manage multiple matters at any one time. Standards are set high just as you would expect at this level.
β
This is no place for βback-roomβ lawyers.
Technical excellence alone is not enough to become a successful offshore lawyer. Client facing from the outset, you will need a flair for communication and a love of the βpeopleβ side of practice. If you get a kick out of nurturing relationships and winning business, you will enjoy the culture here.
β
An excellent career platform.
This is not a one-way ticket. You can return onshore and there are countless examples of lawyers who have, and to top-class firms too. Of course, many never want to and for them, Partnership is a very realistic ambition, as is the potential to work across multiple offshore locations.
β
Financially rewarding.
Tax rates offshore range from zero to 20% and salaries from good to outstanding. Benefits are comparable to any major firm, bonus schemes attractive, and relocation packages generous. As your salary rises, the tax status rewards you more. People rarely return home for financial reasons.
β
A life-changing move.
Outside of work, life offshore operates at a different pace. Less time commuting and a reasonable balance equals more time with family and friends or enjoying the many attractions of a coastal lifestyle on a beautiful island. Settling in is easy, leaving is hard.
β
Too good to be true?
Well, yes and no. Offshore life is not perfect. Island life has drawbacks, you may miss home, family, and friends, you may even miss aspects of city life. But it is exceptionally rare to hear anyone regret making this move. From your first chat with us to signing a contract, the process is designed to give full disclosure on what to expect so if it is not for you, you will surely find out along the way.
β
Interviews will be taking place in the new year over videoconference with start dates typically 3-6 months later. You don\βt need to be ready to start applications to get in touch though.
