At Babcock we’re working to create a safe and secure world, together, and by joining us as a Human Factors Engineer at Devonport you’ll do that by supporting nuclear and radiological safety at one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe.

The role involves supporting the development and implementation of modern standards safety cases that support the UK Naval Nuclear Propulsion Programme. This could include tasks such as:

  • Undertaking human factors assessment work to support the nuclear safety assessment process.
  • The design and development of administrative arrangements that are important in maintaining nuclear safety on site.
  • Supporting the ergonomic design development of engineering equipment, technology, and facilities.
  • The authorship and checking of technical documentation.

Essential experience needed for Human Factors Engineers at Babcock:

To join us you’ll need to be qualified in an Ergonomics, Occupational Psychology, or an Applied Psychology related discipline and – depending on the level you join us at - are either chartered or able to work towards professional status with either the IEHF or BPS. You will already have human factors knowledge and experience in working in high hazard industries that might include things such as safety assessments, human reliability analysis, an understanding of engineering design, training development, and technical report writing. For senior roles you’ll also need the ability to lead and mentor a small team of people. Lastly, you will need to possess good interpersonal skills, be competent in verbal and written communication, with the ability to interface effectively with internal stakeholders and Senior Managers.
