Location: Abingdon, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom. SLB’s Abingdon Technology Centre, UK, is the home of reservoir simulation and engineering. The most widely used reservoir simulation tools and workflows in the industry are conceived and created here. Cutting-edge technologies based on consistent models of the subsurface are the basis of our reservoir development studies. The depth of experience of the Oxfordshire group is unparalleled anywhere else. As we continue to support the energy transition to low carbon solutions, we require a dynamic mid-career person to join our software development team.

Job Summary: The Quality Assurance Engineer (Reservoir Engineer) is a key technical contributor with an appreciation of model creation approaches and how they are consumed in reservoir simulation. The successful candidate will utilise key reservoir engineer expertise to validate the applicability and quality of the newly developed software solutions.

Typical Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Review software requirement documents and provide input to improve product deliverables (including technical documentation).
  • Design, create, review, organize and execute test strategy, test plans and test suites with focus on intended quality of application workflows and in close cooperation with the development team to ensure test plan completeness.
  • Make independent studies, analysis, interpretations and conclusions to evaluate data quality and application during testing of new products and services; compares tool performance versus specification and evaluates the relevance of the measurement in respect to customer needs.
  • Find, explore, analyze and prioritize technical problems based on the importance to the end user and effect on overall product quality.
  • Advise and help to develop automated tests to support efficient regression testing.
  • Track testing progress and report test results in a timely manner using provided systems for reporting and defect tracking.
  • Ensure engineering solutions meet the acceptance criteria defined for the functionality to be released.
  • Proactively identify and escalate project risks.
  • Assist in planning and testing of incremental releases or new versions of the product.
  • Deliver training and offer technical support to engineers, the R&D team, field organization and customers to facilitate the application or understanding of the software functionality.
  • May participate in joint case studies between R&D organization and customers.
  • Investigate and propose new development areas and technical solutions in the domain of reservoir engineering that demonstrate an understanding of the Company strategy.
  • Assists the Product Champions and Analysts during product or service introduction; in particular, for marketing documentation, publications in professional societies, training schools, presentations of tools and solutions to customers, on-line training packages.
  • Participates in the relevant technical reviews and audits of the projects.
  • Contributes to the innovation activities and university relationships of the technology or research centre.
  • Complies with applicable company policies, including Personnel, Quality System and Health, Safety and Environment standards and procedures.
  • Successfully complete required safety training (including but not limited to drugs and alcohol, electrical, emergency response, fire, first aid, health and hygiene, PPE, SIPP, risk reporting, IT security, driving).

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (Masters) in a reservoir engineer domain.
  • Experience (work placements / internships etc) in commercial reservoir engineer roles.
  • Knowledge of concepts relating to Petrel technologies or reservoir simulation would be advantageous.
