The Data Team Analyst, Commercial supports the Market Analysts, Strategists and Traders by developing and maintaining data pipelines and visualisations for everyday use. In addition, this position will support ad-hoc requests from Senior Management, various Commercial groups, the Chief Economist’s Office, and Investor Relations. The analyst will primarily utilise tools such as Databricks, Data Factory, and Power BI to develop meaningful insights into the data; while developing a strong understanding of commodity pricing, seasonality, and supply and demand drivers related to energy markets.
Primary Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
- Providing market analytical support for Commercial by developing, implementing, and supporting tools and analyses that improve the efficiency and consistency of information communicated across the global Commercial organisation.
- Designing, developing and maintaining data capture tools that support Market Analysis and Commercial/Midstream Trading organisations using Power Apps.
- Developing and maintaining data pipelines and visualisations using Databricks, Data Factory, and Power BI.
- Leading ad-hoc projects and analysis to support Market Analysts, Strategists and Traders.
- Assisting Strategists in developing predictive models for markets, using fundamental and technical data, as appropriate.
- Leading information gathering processes and development of presentation packages as needed.
- Working to improve existing tools and processes used by the Commercial organisation.
- Sharing knowledge freely and improving the team’s capabilities.
Critical Skills/Leadership Criteria:
- Hold the legal right to live and work in the UK on a permanent basis without restrictions, or meet the relevant criteria for employer sponsorship.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- 2-years’ experience with SQL and Python.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong analytical, problem solving, and organisational skills.
- Ability to adapt to quickly evolving requirements.
- Ability to synthesise data into useful information and articulate it to others in an easy-to-understand format.
- High degree of collaborative skills.
- Ability to develop, lead and actively participate on cross functional teams.
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in MIS, Engineering or Business.
- Prior experience in the energy industry.
- Experience with Power BI, Databricks, Data Factory, Azure DevOps and Git.
- Experience in Machine Learning.
- Experience of at least one of the following: Commercial trading businesses, Commodity Markets, Refining/Petrochemical Process understanding.
- Willingness and ability to support internal customers in business requirements.
- High degree of initiative - works proactively to anticipate needs.
- Strong ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
