This is an exciting opportunity to join an ambitious organisation aiming to revolutionise digital and technology services. As a Senior Digital Developer Team Leader, you will be able to utilise your experience to drive continuous improvement of our products and ways of working. This varied hybrid role will be a mixture of home working, NHSBT centre base working, some days you may be spent hands on development of our products and services and mentoring the team, others may be spent working on the software delivery strategy for the team or working with customers of NHSBT senior management to determine the requirements for digital solutions; some may involve ensuring strategic suppliers are keeping up with their obligations; and some will be spent driving the agenda and successful outcomes from high level meetings.
You will be responsible for leading and mentoring a team of skilled individuals working on a variety of technologies (e.g. C#, .Net, Cloud & Serverless & full stack technologies) helping you gain valuable experience in a wide range of technologies. Reporting directly to the Product Centre Technical Lead you will have peers in other Digital areas helping you gain exposure across many areas of the business.
Main duties of the job
- Lead, motivate, and mentor a team of developers, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality systems that meet NHSBT's operational and strategic objectives.
- Plan and coordinate the team’s workload to develop and deploy world-class information systems, application software, and database services using the best tools and technologies.
- Act as a technical authority on the software development methods and tools used by the team and on the systems developed and maintained.
- Assist in formulating the Product Centre Software Development strategy.
- Provide expert advice on software development, database systems, and systems analysis.
- Lead strategic discussions, mentor developers, and present technical solutions.
- Conduct research on new technologies, products, and tools, and present findings to senior management.
- Maintain existing applications, including collecting change requirements, identifying improvement opportunities, and running workshops.
- Advise on the procurement and implementation of third-party systems.
- Collaborate with system suppliers to select appropriate technologies for NHSBT systems.
- Work closely with the Business Intelligence and Data Management Department to provide software, database solutions, and technical support.
You will be required to travel and spend time away from base, which will involve working irregular hours and overnight stays when required, with prior notice.
About You
Experience and Knowledge:
- Extensive experience of the design, development, management and maintenance of software applications across a large organisation.
- Advanced knowledge and substantial proven experience in software development, with experience in the majority of: Oracle Web-based development technologies, PL/SQL, Apex C#, .NET Framework 3.5+ inc. ASP.NET/ MVC Oracle 9+, SQL Server 2005+, T-SQL, SSIS Visual Studio 2010+ OOAD and UML techniques HTML, JavaScript, JQuery XML, XSD, JSON Network architecture and protocols such as SNMP, HTTP, SOAP, SOA-Web Services ETL techniques and methods and tools for data manipulation.
- Knowledge of IT best practice as stipulated by the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL).
- Agile/Lean and traditional delivery methodologies.
- Proven experience in resource management, combined with knowledge and practical expertise in change management.
Qualifications and Training
- MSc in Computer Science (or related discipline) or significant industrial experience equivalent to Masters level.
- Extensive training in software development tools and methodologies and in database technologies, including Oracle and SQL Server.
- Demonstrates commitment to own continued professional development (CPD).
