Engineering Support Operative

Overview

As an Engineering Support Operative you will operate, set up and maintain production machinery to ensure efficient running of production. This role includes responding to stoppage calls from the control room and completing planned OAC (Operator Asset Care) maintenance tasks. You may need to work while line operatives are on breaks and take breaks at different times to enable set-up or carry out planned preventative maintenance, either on your own initiative or in collaboration with site engineers.

Shifts

2 days, 2 nights, 4 days off, 6:00 – 18:00. You will be expected to work both days and nights.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance strip-downs, identify defects and replace parts.
  • Proactively maintain machinery (e.g., replace belts and bands) and address issues during the shift; inspect parts with precision tools.
  • Identify machine parts details from components and manuals to enable sourcing of replacement parts.
  • Keep records of approved and defective units or final products (including OTIF).
  • Demonstrate machine operations, safety and maintenance competencies and outline common issues.
  • Deliver planned maintenance SOPs as per the site PPM schedule.
  • Work towards qualifications to mechanically strip down and rebuild machine parts (within 6 months).
  • Work towards qualifications to electrically disconnect and reconnect like-for-like components (within 2 years).
  • Identify downtime issues and contribute to resolution.

Who You Are

  • Experience in a similar role, preferably in an FMCG environment.
  • Mechanically minded with working knowledge of high-speed machinery and measurement tools.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Confident, proactive team player with flexibility and problem-solving abilities.
  • Understanding of production procedures and adherence to health and safety regulations (including constant use of protective gear).
