There will ample opportunity to develop skills in managing a wide range of clinical presentations as well as management opportunities that will allow post holders to apply for Specialty Training or submit a CESR application. Our Orthogeriatric service is highly regarded and the successful candidate will be key to it\’s continuing development. Main duties of the job The successful candidate will be fully involved in all aspects of the work of the department under the supervision of the consultant and will attend to patients aged 60 and over who have attended with hip or femoral fractures Working for our organisation St Helier Hospital is home to the South West Thames Renal and Transplantation Unit and Queen Mary\’s Hospital for Children, while Epsom Hospital is home to the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC). Both Epsom and St Helier hospitals have Accident and Emergency departments (A&E) and Maternity services (Obstetrics). We also play an active role in the local healthcare economy, and are the lead provider in two innovative health and care partnerships. We have partnered with CSH Surrey, the three GP federations in the Surrey Downs area, and Surrey Council (who are an associate member), to provide adult community health services. This innovative partnership is called Surrey Downs Health and Care. In Sutton, we have joined forces with the London Borough of Sutton, Sutton GP Services and South West London and St Georges Mental Health Trust to provide adult and childrens community health services and sexual health services to local people. Together, we are called Sutton Health and Care. Holistic assessment of older patients by performing comprehensive geriatric assessment with specific attention to fall assessment, addressing polypharmacy and osteoporosis management. 2. Active role in multidisciplinary rehabilitation and discharge planning in line with the national hip fracture database. 3. Supervision of resident doctors working within the team for perioperative management of older patients 4. Management of fragility fractures and further investigation for osteoporosis under consultant supervision. 5. Responsible for virtual bone health clinic and being a part of the complex bone health MDT 6. To contribute to the development of Physician led Orthogeriatric service, treatment guidelines and promotion of greater knowledge of elderly care patients on the Orthogeriatric ward 7. Actively participation in audit, teaching, mortality review, clinical effectiveness initiatives and clinical governance. 8. Expected to show interest and participation in research projects related to femoral fracture care. 9. Completion of e-discharge summaries of discharged patients and handover of the femoral fracture patients to the out of hours teams, for continuity of care. 10. Post holder will attend weekly medical outpatient clinic under consultant supervision. 11. Active participation in audit, teaching, mortality review, clinical effectiveness initiatives and clinical governance. 12. Support clinical responsibilities during consultant absence, with necessary supervision in place. 13. Be a mentor for International Medical Graduates on observership and shadow rotations Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria MBBS or equivalent medical qualification GMC Registration BSc or equivalent Prizes or honours in MBBS or equivalent MRCP PACES or equivalent degree Diploma in Geriatric Medicine Minimum of 4 years of clinical experience after graduation Minimum of 2 years experience as a specialty trainee in a relevant specialty Maintaining good medical practice Professional behaviour and probity Delivery of good acute clinical care Reliable work record Minimum of 2 years experience in Care of the Elderly/Orthogeriatrics Evidence of teaching experience Evidence of exposure to different groups/teaching methods Teaching qualification(s) Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English to the appropriate standard necessary to fulfil the job requirements. Ability to produce legible notes Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team Good interpersonal skills Good written and verbal communication skills Enquiring, critical and flexible approach to work Demonstrates understanding of the importance of audit, research and clinical risk management.
