We are offering an exciting opportunity for someone looking to progress their career within Orthogeriatrics as a Specialty Doctor. There will be ample opportunity to develop skills in managing a wide range of clinical presentations as well as management opportunities that will allow post holders to apply for Specialty Training or submit a CESR application. Our Orthogeriatric service is highly regarded and the successful candidate will be key to its continuing development.
Main Responsibilities and Duties:
- Holistic assessment of older patients by performing comprehensive geriatric assessment with specific attention to fall assessment, addressing polypharmacy and osteoporosis management.
- Active role in multidisciplinary rehabilitation and discharge planning in line with the national hip fracture database.
- Supervision of resident doctors working within the team for perioperative management of older patients.
- Management of fragility fractures and further investigation for osteoporosis under consultant supervision.
- Responsible for virtual bone health clinic and being a part of the complex bone health MDT.
- Contribute to the development of Physician led Orthogeriatric service, treatment guidelines and promotion of greater knowledge of elderly care patients on the Orthogeriatric ward.
- Active participation in audit, teaching, mortality review, clinical effectiveness initiatives and clinical governance.
- Expected to show interest and participation in research projects related to femoral fracture care.
- Completion of e-discharge summaries of discharged patients and handover of the femoral fracture patients to the out of hours teams, for continuity of care.
- Attend weekly medical outpatient clinic under consultant supervision.
- Support clinical responsibilities during consultant absence, with necessary supervision in place.
- Be a mentor for International Medical Graduates on observership and shadow rotations.
Person Specification:
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
- GMC Registration.
- BSc or equivalent.
- Minimum of 4 years of clinical experience after graduation.
- Minimum of 2 years experience as a specialty trainee in a relevant specialty.
- Evidence of teaching experience.
- Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English to the appropriate standard necessary to fulfil the job requirements.
- Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
