The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) provides a full range of general acute, outpatient and diagnostic services at The Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, the Herts and Essex Hospital in Bishop’s Stortford, and St Margaret’s Hospital in Epping.

An opportunity has arisen to join our friendly team in the Alexandra Day Stay Unit (incorporating Netteswell Admissions Unit and Vanguard Unit). Shift times are 06:30-19:30 and 07:30-20:30. This busy unit supports patients undergoing day case surgery and procedures. We work collaboratively with associated members of the perioperative team along with senior nursing personnel, our patient safety and quality and operations teams.

Main duties of the job:

  • To provide expert, holistic care of a high standard to both patients and their relatives at The Princess Alexandra Hospital.
  • To take direct managerial responsibility for the clinical area in the absence or as delegated by the Senior Sister / Charge Nurse / Matron.
  • To act as a clinical resource with the department and across the care directorate as necessary.
  • To act as a positive role model to junior staff members.

Person specification:

  • Registered Nurse (part 1 register).
  • Demonstrate interest and commitment to the professional development of self and others.
  • Good communication skills – able to relate and communicate with patients and staff at all levels and from different professions.
  • Team building and working skills.
  • Understanding of the issues pertaining to patient safety and quality.
  • Evidence of practice assessor qualification.
  • Experience of working in an acute surgical setting.
