The role typically involves oversight of one or two smaller-scale efforts and acts as the primary mechanical designer on larger core-and-shell or infrastructure renovation projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take the lead on HVAC design work for interior renovations and play a central role in mechanical planning for new building systems or major infrastructure modifications.
  • Generate schematic layouts such as riser diagrams, mechanical schedules, and floorplans, while also contributing to specification development.
  • Interpret project requirements to formulate design parameters and compile the foundational basis-of-design documentation.
  • Prepare complete mechanical drawing packages, including the layout of equipment rooms, mechanical closets, vertical risers, and utility shafts.
  • Spearhead the design for related mechanical support systems such as emergency power (UPS), backup generators, fuel delivery systems, booster pumps, and water reuse solutions—translating scope into technical documentation.
  • Provide limited-supervision oversight of construction-phase activities such as reviewing submittals and RFIs, assessing contractor modifications, conducting site walkthroughs, and final inspections.

  • Strong grasp of mechanical system scope, relevant codes and standards, and multidisciplinary coordination.
  • Well-versed in the documentation process and deliverable requirements across all project stages (schematic design, design development, construction documents, and specs).
  • Skilled in industry-standard design software, especially AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Able to proactively manage shifting priorities, anticipate project needs, and handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
