Do you have a track record of seamlessly collaborating with diverse project teams and external regulators? Are you ready to lead environmental delivery for significant capital programmes? The Environmental Engineering Delivery Lead will play a key role knitting the Environmental and Engineering functions together for South East Water. You should be a strong communicator with excellent organisational skills, who takes time to understand the Engineering Department needs, and to ensure that the Environment Team service these in the most efficient and effective manner, to ensure efficient delivery of the Capital Works programme.
This role will include monthly reporting to the Engineering Management Team and undertaking briefings to Engineering more widely as part of New Starter Inductions, presentations and technical updates when legislation, policy and guidance change. The role will need somebody who is financially and contractually aware, reporting and inputting as required to new and ongoing contracts with contractors and consultants. The individual will undertake much of the checking and reviewing of environmental documents produced for Engineering, and will also attend site to support the Engineering and Environmental Teams, including undertaking an audit function. The individual would ideally have an area of environmental specialism in order to widen the team's capabilities.
Main Responsibilities:
- The individual would be a skilled environmentalist who is able to advise on a broad range of environmental topics and know where to seek expertise, reviewing and challenging these inputs to ensure the best outcomes for the Environment and South East Water's Capital works delivery programme.
- Responsible for ensuring mechanisms are in place for the Environment Team to assess all work and influence design to minimise environmental impacts.
- Responsible for communicating this to Project Teams / Managers and Engineering Management and the Environment Team. Also providing training and updates across the business.
- Manage and support the Environment Team so as they provide environmental advice on how projects should proceed and likely environmental sensitivities of a project.
- This will ensure each project is programmed and executed in a well-planned way in line with environmental constraints, so that environmental risks are avoided or appropriate controls in place.
- Managing and overseeing the Environment Team's input into design to minimise environmental impacts in the most effective way while also enabling South East Water to carry out its business.
- Support reporting, consultation and setting out mitigation on key issues such as protected species and sites.
- Oversee the Environmental Team to prepare and coordinate technical reports to a high standard to meet internal, stakeholder and regulatory requirements, stepping in to support where necessary for complex items.
- Support with engaging and contributing to the Engineering team, environment team and project meetings and liaising with stakeholders and regulators.
You’ll need:
- Technically qualified environmentalist (with a degree, HND or equivalent work related experience) and at least 8 years work experience.
- Full, clean driving licence and ability to travel across Company region/areas as required.
- Good knowledge of contracts.
- Excellent communication with a wide range of internal and external audiences.
- Ability to interpret data and present it in an interesting and informative way.
- Ability to train others.
- Experience managing environmental construction work including managing fee estimates and programmes for programmes of work or complex schemes.
- Team management experience.
It will be a bonus if you have:
- Degree ideally in a scientific discipline or relevant work related area.
- Member of professional Chartership or working towards.
- Audit or other compliance skills.
- Advanced Excel skills for reporting and managing reporting for compliance of works and also finances, programme etc.
- Experience in biodiversity net gain.
- Experience in obtaining permissions such as Planning Permission, permission to work in designated sites, working with protected species.
