You will be a Senior Counsel in RBC’s European legal team based in London focusing on the transaction documentation needs of RBC’s asset management business. You will also provide legal services and advice to support RBC’s global markets businesses and trading documentation needs, as well as the other platforms in Europe as may be required from time to time to enhance the Law Group support regionally.
What will you do?
- Act as a key internal relationship manager for Law Group in Europe as it relates to the trading documentation needs of RBC Global Asset Management.
- Draft, negotiate and execute derivative, repo and securities finance documentation and other ancillary documents for new and existing RBC funds / segregated accounts.
- Support the broader RBC enterprise needs for escalation on trading documentation including netting, cross border and capacity questions.
- Provide sound legal risk analysis in a user-friendly manner and assess and anticipate the needs of the businesses and functional partners.
- Showcase excellence in practice management and tracking of matters, taking the lead in weekly calls with business team.
- Manage the activities of external counsel to identify the optimal resources for resolving issues and manage the quality and cost of the external legal services.
- Leverage legal expertise and financial services knowledge across Law Group and develop/maintain up-to-date precedent and know-how files to ensure delivery of coordinated, efficient and comprehensive solutions.
- Get involved in major projects (including new business developments and regulatory-related matters).
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
- Qualified lawyer with at least 6 years post-qualification experience focused on financial markets and asset management.
- A solid understanding of trading documentation needs/standards, including derivative and securities finance documentation.
- Experience working in large cross-jurisdictional teams, collaborating and successfully implementing key projects and initiatives.
- Highly motivated, pro-active and efficient team player who contributes to the continuous improvement of the Law Group; results oriented and well organised.
- Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, and influence in a variety of formats and venues.
- Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy.
- Ability to analyse legal risk in context of business realities and be flexible in approach.
- High level of commitment to providing exceptional service in a timely and innovative manner.
- Strong drafting, negotiation and organisational skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to multi-task and “can-do” attitude with a proven track record working in a fast-moving environment.
