Freelance Video Editor - Space and Astronomy Content (Remote)

Are you passionate about storytelling through visual media? Join us at Astrum, one of the largest astronomy channels on YouTube with over 2 million subscribers. We are looking for talented and creative Freelance Video Editors to join our remote production team. The ideal candidates will have a background in video editing and a genuine interest in science content. Experience editing documentaries and educational content will be considered a valuable asset.

Tasks:

• Edit and produce high-quality long form videos that incorporate live action and animation footage, utilising video editing software and collaborating with animators.
• Archive Research - Search databases for relevant high-quality images, footage and visuals.
• Source, download, select and import suitable media elements (videos, images, audio).
• Work closely with the creator and the production team to ensure all video content is accurate, informative and engaging.
• Integrate the tone of voice from the original Astrum channel into the new editing style, while elevating the overall quality to a higher standard than the original channel.
• Implement sound design on edits.
• Ensure use of rights-cleared assets.
• Manage and organise video footage, assets and archives.
• Stay up-to-date with video editing software and techniques.

Requirements:

• 3+ years of experience in video editing and accompanying showreel, with an emphasis on digital content creation and experience with YouTube.
• Advanced proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro & Creative Cloud.
• Demonstrated experience using and creating motion graphics and animations.
• Excellent video documentary storytelling skills.
• Although not essential, a strong understanding of YouTube and other social media platforms and how to optimise content for those platforms would be beneficial.
• A passion for Astronomy with the ability to communicate complex concepts to a broad audience.
• Experience in sound design, with the ability to integrate audio elements into video projects, is essential.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask.
• Previous experience editing factual documentaries will be considered an advantage.
