Role Title: Personal Finance Press Senior Manager

Department: Client Office

Reporting to: Director of Corporate Communications and Affairs

The Role

To drive our consumer brand reputation with the personal finance media, building visibility and positive sentiment with customers and other external stakeholders to support our wider communications and growth strategy.

Outcomes of the Role

  • To help develop a positive brand narrative for key consumer audiences in line with our brand positioning and corporate brand narrative, working as part of a growing team
  • To develop a systematic media engagement strategy and ensure appropriate frequency of contact with key journalists across personal finance media
  • To proactively and reactively write cut-through content that aligns to these audiences and that both drives media interest and can be leveraged more widely
  • To maintain, build and support spokespeople within the business, creating a platforms for their voice across print, , online broadcast and social media.
  • To support and enable B2C marketing campaigns aligning the PR approach to the goals of these campaigns, producing relevant thought leadership that can be amplified by the media agreed as part of the overall comms strategy
  • To orchestrate appropriate awards submissions to enhance the credentials of the business providing support on crafting the narrative in line with our broader consumer and corporate narrative

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • A journalist / former journalist with experience in personal finance media
  • Client-side experience valuable but not essential, in house or agency experience is desirable
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Strong understanding of personal finance, and of savings and investments – also the wider financial services sector is essential.
  • Excellent relationships in the personal finance media
  • Outstanding ability to mobilise at short notice on reactive press inquiries
  • A creative thinker who can write own pieces of content and pitch them to the personal finance media getting them published
  • A team player who understands the connection between PR and marketing, and can balance their own agenda with the support of marketing campaigns and work collaboratively with a wide range of internal stakeholders
  • Knows how to write for SEO and in line with regulatory standards
  • Knows how to write content for social media
  • Experienced with different types of media: print, broadcast and social.
