Consultants in Neurology

We are looking to recruit two whole-time Consultant Neurologists to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, one post with outpatient clinics at Sheffield and Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and the other post outpatient clinics at Sheffield and Rotherham District General Hospital. Main duties of the job

Appointments are made to the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the person appointed is required to be sufficiently flexible to undertake their main clinical duties at any of the sites within the region and/or to change their base hospital. The appointee, together with consultant colleagues, will be expected to actively participate in the management of acute neurological admissions and in-patients including the management of acute stroke referrals and in-patients as part of routine weekday and all out of hours periods. The person appointed will be required to cover for colleagues during periods of absence. They will have continuing responsibility for patients in their care and the proper functioning of the Department.

• Qualifications

• Essential: Registered with the GMC with a licence to practice. Name on the specialist register for Neurology or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview. If an applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview. MRCP or Equivalent.
• Desirable: Higher Degree, Further qualifications in research methods, teaching and/or management, Distinctions, prizes, awards, scholarships.

• Essential: Good oral and written communication skills, Demonstrates behaviour consistent with PROUD values, Good time management skills, Ensures value for money is considered in all that they do, The applicant must demonstrate skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking the English language that enables effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues as set out in the GMC's good medical practice (2013), Prepared to work flexibly as required, Effective team member who is able to work with colleagues in a multi-disciplinary environment, Able to withstand demands of the post and to take sound clinical decisions at all times.

• Essential: Evidence of the understanding of the systems and structures of NHS Management, Evidence of ability to work with management and previous experience of management groups, Ability to lead a team and understanding of leadership skills, Able to prioritise & organise work efficiently.

• Essential: Ability to work as an independent practitioner in Neurology, Has developed (or is willing to develop) a complementary area of sub-specialist interest in Neurology, Understanding of evidence-based medical practice, Skills and competence in the management of patients with neurological conditions.

• Essential: Experience in performing clinical audit.
• Desirable: Completion and publication of a substantive audit project or service improvement project.
