Role – Senior Android Developer, Kotlin / Android

Location – Poole, 1 Week Onsite / 1 Week Offsite

Salary – £55,000 to £75,000

Candidates must be eligible for SC Clearance to be suitable for this role.

We\’re delighted to be working in partnership with an innovative SME systems integrator delivering mission-critical software solutions across the UK public sector. With a strong focus on data-driven decision support and secure systems, they are looking to add an experienced Senior Android Developer to their high-impact Defence programme.

The Opportunity

This role offers the chance to work on a highly sensitive and technically complex project within the Defence domain. You\’ll contribute to the design and development of an Android-based application that supports key operational capabilities. The environment is collaborative, agile, and fast-paced, and your work will have a tangible impact on national infrastructure and public safety.

This is a hybrid position with a structured rhythm of 1 week onsite and 1 week remote, based in Poole.

The Role

As a Senior Android Developer, you will take a lead role within the development team, influencing technical direction and helping define and implement secure, scalable solutions. In addition to hands-on development using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, you will:

• Drive sprint planning, estimations, and retrospectives
• Mentor and coach junior developers, providing code reviews and development guidance
• Take ownership of key features and architectural decisions
• Liaise with Product Owners and stakeholders to refine and deliver high-value functionality
• Promote best practices in secure coding, modular architecture, and testing

The Person

We\’re looking for a confident and capable Android Developer who is ready to step up into a leadership role — or who already brings proven senior-level experience. You should be proactive, solutions-focused, and comfortable operating in high-trust environments.

Must Have

• Strong Android development experience
• Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, and Room Database
• Experience mentoring junior developers or leading small teams
• A proactive mindset and ability to work autonomously

Nice to Have:

• Retrofit / OkHttp for network communication
• MVVM design pattern
• Secure Data Store implementation
• Testing: AssertJ, Mockito, Compose UI testing

Very Nice to Have:

• Modular architecture design
• Cryptographic experience (e.g., Bouncy Castle)
• Android Device Management tools (Samsung Knox, Device Policy Manager)
