We are looking for a dynamic, high-performing Capacity Manager with experience ensuring that services, systems, and infrastructure are appropriately sized to meet capacity and performance targets in a cost-effective manner. You will become part of DCC’s Capacity Management team and bring experience of implementing process and governance and a thorough technical understanding of the components within a large corporate environment. As an influential communicator with strong persuasion and negotiation skills, you will bring functions together to consistently manage capacity of the infrastructure, network, and business applications across the estate. This role offers an opportunity to ensure consistency in approach at component level, maintain minimum standards, and understand effective trigger points to prevent avoidable capacity constraints. This person will become a subject matter expert for one or more of the service providers and their infrastructure that we assure. You will build effective partnerships across the business to identify and understand performance and capacity needs, demand pipeline, and future growth.
What will you be doing?
- Act as a subject matter expert for service and component capacity that makes up DCC’s large and technically challenging secure data network to support the successful smart meter roll-out across Great Britain.
- Build effective partnerships across the business to identify and understand performance and capacity needs, demand pipeline, and future growth.
- Ensure that DCC infrastructure, network, and application capacity remains fit for purpose, stable, reliable, and able to respond to changes and future demands.
- Work with our service providers to ensure ongoing improvements and value for money for our customers, with the objective of reducing charges for our customers.
- Own the delivery of capacity programmes that support the reuse of DCC capabilities in contexts other than smart metering or even outside the energy sector.
- Partner with DCC Technical Architects and Data Science to provide an agile and flexible approach to capacity management that supports the needs of our customers in terms of data and connectivity.
- Drive the diagnosis and resolution of capacity or performance-related issues working with other ITIL functions.
- Oversee the production and maturing of Service Provider Capacity plans to predict performance and capacity needs and the production of regular management reports and dashboards.
- Draft and maintain policy, standards, and procedures for capacity management and planning and identify and drive opportunities to create or improve processes.
- Provide expert guidance and support to broader Service Operations optimisation initiatives.
- Produce capacity and performance impact assessments to understand the impact of operational changes, maintenance, projects, and programmes on the baseline performance and capacity utilization of the solutions.
- Build and maintain capacity and performance models to predict capacity break points and bottlenecks.
What are we looking for?
- A person who has strong people skills and is able to engage with people at different levels internally and externally.
- A candidate who is collaborative, inspiring, and works well as part of a wider team, and is an effective manager of competing priorities and needs from a multitude of stakeholders.
- A person who will foster key relationships to deliver outcomes and ensure robust conversations take place where needed.
- Experience of managing activity in a matrix environment, influencing business outcomes from a diverse stakeholder group and delivering against the strategic priorities.
- A person who has successfully transformed the customer experience within the network planning and capacity management domain whilst ensuring value-for-money and appropriate investment.
- Someone who can communicate complex information in a simple and engaging way to non-technical stakeholders.
- An individual who is demonstrably passionate about their discipline and can communicate the benefits to senior stakeholders and suppliers.
- Someone who is willing to challenge what they’re told.
- A person with an inquisitive mind who is driven to discover more about the domain they operate in.
- Has demonstrable experience in these core areas of capacity management: Predictive analysis (relating demand to consumption), Performance impact – assessing how resource consumption impacts performance targets and SLAs (e.g., response time and throughput), Cost impact – how changes required to support demand impact costs.
- Experience of managing in a matrix environment, influencing business outcomes from a diverse stakeholder group and delivering against the strategic priorities.
- Knowledge of Cloud Technologies (GCP, AWS, Azure etc.) and the potential evolution and benefits of applying network planning and capacity planning techniques within this domain.
