Approved Mental Health Professional Emergency Duty Team Qualified Social Worker Location: Greater Manchester Pay rate: £40 per hour We are seeking experienced and passionate Qualified Social Workers to join the dedicated Approved Mental Health Professional – Emergency Duty Team in the North West. As part of this team, you will operate in a fast-paced, busy, and supportive environment. Your responsibilities will include coordinating assessments, demonstrating principles of the Mental Health Act (such as the least restrictive and participation principles), and ensuring humane and dignified conveyance of individuals to hospital when necessary. You will provide the Council’s statutory emergency response outside of office hours, including weekends and bank holidays, handling complex situations involving adults needing mental health assessments, safeguarding, and social care emergency interventions. The role involves delivering high-quality social care, managing safeguarding risks within a multi-agency environment, and working holistically and person-centered to keep clients and families central to the process. The AMHP has authority to apply for detention under the Mental Health Act and to approve Community Treatment Orders and Guardianship requests. Trained Best Interest Assessors (BIAs) can also recommend deprivation of liberty under the Mental Capacity Act. Ideal candidates will have: Professional Social Work qualification and registration with Social Work England AMHP qualification Post-qualification experience, especially with complex cases Willingness to undergo an enhanced disclosure check Availability to work out of hours, including weekends and bank holidays, to provide a 24/7 service In this role, you will: Respond effectively to out-of-hours referrals and make highly complex decisions across social work duties Conduct assessments and share outcomes appropriately in emergency settings Arrange hospital admissions or refer to less restrictive alternatives, liaising with crisis and medical teams Ensure safeguarding interventions are effectively managed and documented Apply the Mental Capacity Act diligently, seeking least restrictive options and making immediate decisions in high-risk situations Engage informal supports, resolve conflicts, and coordinate with statutory, voluntary, and independent services Produce high-quality documentation adhering to policies and deadlines Collaborate with partner agencies to deliver effective planning and positive outcomes for adults in North West This is an agency post, and Pertemps offers: A dedicated consultant with access to roles across the UK Easy registration, referral schemes, incentives, compliance management, reliable payroll, and more The role is ideally suited for those traveling from areas including Oldham, Trafford, Ashton under Lyne, Macclesfield, Bury, Altrincham, Bolton, Middleton, Urmston, Huddersfield, Irlam, Stockport, Stretford, Eccles, Salford, Rochdale, Knowsley, Bradford, Chester, Warrington, Runcorn, Birkenhead, Widnes, Huyton, Wallasey, Wigan, St Helens, Wirral, Ormskirk, Halton, and Liverpool.
