Job purpose: The job of a reporter on the Legal Business team involves writing about law firms, in-house lawyers and other subjects of relevance to the legal profession. This contribution plays a crucial role in helping to meet L500 corporate ambitions of boosting relations with the leading UK and global law firms as well as the biggest in-house legal teams via insightful market commentary and access to industry leaders. Reporters cover a specific group of law firms and industry sectors and are expected to build relationships with law firm management, partners and PRs at those firms to build up an understanding of their business. Reporters will also represent the company at internal and external events, including the Legal Business awards, considered the 'Oscars' of the legal business world!

Core responsibilities:

  • Writing daily/weekly editorial content on law firms – news, features, analysis and interviews
  • Coming up with ideas for and getting involved in video content
  • Coming up with regular news leads and other ideas for content on a weekly basis
  • Talking to lawyers and other professionals to build up an understanding of the legal market
  • Involvement in company events – interacting with panellists and helping with event organisation
  • Online production – uploading and publishing content to weekly deadlines

What we're looking for:

  • Strong communication and networking skills, particularly in the senior lawyer/partner space
  • A natural desire to break stories ahead of our competition
  • Strong writing skills with an eye on deadlines
  • Ability and desire to speak to partners on a daily basis about a range of topics, even those that are sensitive
  • Curiosity and an interest in the commercial legal market and the business world
  • A collaborator and a team player
  • Reporters need to gain a good understanding of what makes news and is interesting to our readers
  • Interest in business news in general and the legal market specifically and ability to build understanding

Working arrangements: Hybrid - 3 days a week in the office on Fleet Street

Interview process:

  • Second stage - written task (virtual)
  • Third stage - face-to-face interview with Editorial Director
