PETROPHYSICIST

Our client, an Oil and Gas Operator is seeking an experienced Petrophysicist. This is a PAYE contract role and is for maternity cover until mid-February 2026

CONTEXT:

Participating effectively in the Subsurface Asset team and enhancing their contribution to Company\’s upstream core asset areas, including near-field exploration, so as to deliver maximum value in terms of production, investment, reserves performance and growth. Develop and implement subsurface strategies to deliver maximum life-of-asset value from the assets. Meanwhile participate in the extensive geoscience P&A scope that is related to the mature fields in the Northern North Sea area (Alwyn / Dunbar).

MAIN ACTIVITIES:

Independently perform accurate petrophysical analyses of Exploration and Development wells under the guidance of the senior Petrophysicist.

In conjunction with Operations Geologists or Asset teams, contribute to the design of logging programmes and/or contribute to the design core analysis programmes for Exploration and Production wells

Contribute to the upkeep and organisation of the subsidiary\’s log and petrophysical database.

Produce quick-look and advanced log-analysis of wells drilled by the subsidiary as operator or partner.

Support Subsurface P&A Lead (TS/GS/GR) in developing Subsurface Decommissioning Planning and data acquisition opportunities for current ARO scope (Quad 9 and NNS). Work in conjunction with Operations Geologist in identifying IZI\’s.

Contribute to projects/teams/task force (e.g. new acreage review/reserves/opportunities/field development plan) with respect to petrophysical issues, with the aim of achieving project or technical deadlines within budgetary constraints

Work with contractors, when required, to ensure that company best practices are followed and a technically sound product is delivered.

Effectively justify technical analysis and recommendations and present these to line management, team or Team and Project leaders.

Represent company, when required, at subsurface committees and workgroups, presenting technical interpretations and recommendations

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:

This post requires a minimum of BSc Hons (MSc Preferred) in earth or physical sciences with deep relevant work experience in Petrophysics and Formation Evaluation techniques.

Experience of Petrophysical evaluation work in the oil industry

Detailed knowledge of Petrophysical software is required, preferably Geolog, including client modules Petrolan and Multimin. Knowledge of alternative software e.g. Techlog, Interactive Petrophysics advantageous.

Experience of working within a multi-disciplined environment with exposure to subsurface Oil and Gas operations

Working knowledge of core evaluation techniques

Excellent communication and organisational skills

Ability to work within tight time constraints while still delivering high quality technical interpretations
