Who We Are Healthcare Consultancy Group (HCG) is the global healthcare communications partner for pharma and biotech that accelerates the impact of medical science.Associate Medical Writer (AMW) An Associate Medical Writer (AMW) is a Scientific Services role requiring up to 1 year\’s experience within a medical communications agency. AMWs work closely with members of the Scientific Services team and report to their assigned line manager (a Scientific Director [SD] or above). Working with their mentors, AMWs are responsible for the generation of good-quality medical copy that meets the client\’s communication objectives, is delivered to budget and on time, and contributes to the quality of the team\’s scientific output.Expectations Strategic Input Understands the purpose and role of communications in the wider therapy area and commercial landscapeUnderstands the strategic fit of their activities and projects into the overall objectives for the business Project deliveryDemonstrates strong basic scientific writing, editing and data comprehension skillsShows a clear understanding of the core scientific principles as they apply to medical communications projectsUndertakes content development, with direction, including appropriate formatting, referencing and annotation of deliverablesComplies with all project process steps and record‐keeping requirements (ensures all projects are submitted in line with Scientific Services review and Editorial requirements; complies with server use mandates, naming conventions and other client‐specific requirements in scope)Demonstrates the ability to work to quality, budget, time and accuracy standardsAcquires learning from internal and external review feedback and applies this to subsequent projectsCustomer Engagement Demonstrates professional clarity in written, verbal and face‐to‐face interactions with clients and medical expertsParticipates in conference calls and email correspondence with clients/medical experts and develops relationships through project deliveryTravels to and/or participates remotely in off‐site meetingsTeam Engagement Establishes and maintains good working relationships within and across departmentsShows capacity for time management/prioritization while following processBuilds an understanding of the key roles and responsibilities within the teamEffectively and proactively communicates with team membersManagement and Organization Develops content within the budget specifications and sets goals to improve efficiencyKeeps the Account Manager/Account Director informed regularly on project status; flags issues in a timely fashionUnderstands and uses company processes and SOPsKeeps manager informed of available hours; works to minimize non‐billable timeBusiness Development Shows a general understanding of the Chameleon business development modelParticipates in account planning sessionsSupports new business proposal development, as requiredOther Responsibilities Takes responsibility for their own Personal Development Plan (PDP)Regularly seeks opportunities to learn and grow professionally by: Maximizing exposure to new opportunitiesMaking the most of training opportunities with self‐directed learning and taught/mentor‐led training

From time to time, AMWs may also be expected to work on weekends (e.g. attend scientific meetings, congresses for training purposes), to undertake any of the duties of junior staff as necessary, and to carry out duties that arise from sickness or holidays of other staffAdherence to company best working practicesAMWs must comply with HCG\’s standard policies and procedures.
