Our time is NOW. ERM, the world's largest pure play sustainability consultancy, are seeking a talented and experienced Ornithologist, at either Senior or Managing Consultant level depending on experience. We are also open to an Ecologist who can offer the Ornithology expertise we need, whilst also having more varied/generalist tasks. You will help to support our growing workload and considerable growth ambitions within the Renewable Energy space. You’ll play a crucial role in assessing and mitigating the potential risks to bird species from wind, solar, and battery storage facilities. Your expertise will help our clients balance the need for clean energy with the responsibility to protect wildlife and their habitats. This position would be well suited to an Ornithologist experienced in consent-based consultancy and with experience in, or passion for, the Renewable Energy sector. Applications for part-time/flexible work schedules are welcome and we all work on a hybrid basis. Some site visits may be required; however the role is minimum 90% desk based.

The Role

  • Manage, advise and support renewables and energy infrastructure projects in the UK and internationally
  • Write and review technical ornithology reports including Ecological Impact Assessment, Habitats Regulation Appraisal and Collision Risk Modelling
  • Design, co-ordinate and schedule ornithology surveys
  • Engage with, and provide technical advice to, project managers, stakeholders and clients
  • Mentoring of junior team members (potential line management)

Skills & Experience

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent in ecology/zoology or a related field
  • Strong relevant work experience in a similar role within a consent-based consultancy
  • Project Management, report writing and impact assessment experience is essential, please ensure this experience is highlighted in your CV
  • Membership of a professional body (e.g. CIEEM) or willingness to apply
  • Full driving license which allows you to drive in the UK
  • Protected species survey licence holder would be advantageous
