The Fraser Region Aboriginal Friendship Centre Association is a non-profit organization that provides a diverse range of culturally safe and supportive services to Aboriginal people in Surrey and the Fraser Valley including women impacted by violence and abuse. The Friendship Center works from a decolonizing perspective, and as such, works to strengthen family bonds between generations and within the family.

The role oversees the day-to-day operations of our crisis response services including housing, mental wellness, and domestic violence.

JOB SUMMARY

The Housing, Health and Homelessness Manager will work collaboratively with the Executive Director to build a strong and cohesive prevention services team ensuring that staff are supported to understand their individual and collective roles. As a programs manager, your vision will guide team development and refocus the team on their collective impact in improving the lives of vulnerable Indigenous families and individuals.

Your duties will include:

  • Plans and develops the AHOP (Aboriginal Housing Outreach Prevention), HPP (Housing Prevention Program), Reaching-home program, Intake Worker, Positive Health & Addictions, Complex Needs Coordinator, Harm Reduction and Wellness Program in consultation with the Leadership Team.
  • Plans and implements program activities and special events in accordance with Mission and Goals of the Organization.
  • Formulates program policies and procedures and evaluates the program in consultation with the supervisor.
  • Oversees the day-to-day operation of the program by ensuring that the necessary facilities and equipment are in place, program guidelines and policies are adhered to, and program standards and licensing requirements are met.
  • Supervises program staff by performing duties such as assigning work, scheduling, providing feedback on performance, and conducting performance evaluations.
  • Participates in the recruitment and selection of program staff by performing duties such as screening applicants, participating on interview panels, and making hiring recommendations.
  • Monitors quality of the program including annual client satisfaction surveys and group evaluation processes.
  • Ensures cases are managed within the generally accepted Case Management principles and in compliance with privacy regulations.
  • Orients, determines the need for and provides training to program staff, volunteers, and practicum students.
  • Monitors and authorizes program expenditures and maintains financial records in accordance with established procedures.
  • Prepares the program budget for submission and presentation to senior management and/or the Board of Directors.
  • Promotes public awareness of and support for the CE Lu’Ma, HOP, HPP, IDVP, EWR and RH program by developing and revising the promotional materials and handouts or guiding the development.
  • Oversees OH&S meetings and sanitation procedures, first aid, emergency procedures, health and safety, and oversee general building maintenance.
  • Be an active member of committees such as, but not limited to IHSC, SHHTF, SPRC, SBOT, and VCC.
  • Liaises with community service providers and other professionals to coordinate service provision, facilitate referrals to the program and represent the organization or program in external events.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, psychology, or one of the other behavioral sciences.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in a managerial role.
  • Must be physically, mentally and emotionally capable of performing the duties.
  • Must be willing to expand professional portfolio through supervisory training courses and project management certification.
  • Maintain a clean criminal record check and vulnerable sector search.
  • Must adhere to the organization’s health and wellness plan.

Key Knowledge Areas:

  • Knowledge of the diversity of Indigenous cultures, identities, and lived history.
  • Understanding of HIFIS and training (preferred).
  • Ability to maintain strong and positive stakeholder relations.
  • Experience in mentoring, supporting and leading front-line staff and coordinators/supervisors.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous communities, organizations, service providers and other resources within the Fraser Valley.
  • Knowledge of the inter-generational impacts of residential school, and colonization on the individual and the family.
  • Competently use Microsoft Office suite for employee file management and reporting purposes.
