This is a senior-level Commissioning Manager / Project Commissioning Lead position, overseeing the commissioning of multiple Power Generation and Energy from Waste (EfW) projects across the UK.

The role holder will take full responsibility for the planning, execution, and management of commissioning activities from pre-commissioning through to handover, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.

You will lead multi-disciplinary teams and work closely with contractors, project managers, and site teams to ensure technical excellence and compliance at every stage.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement commissioning strategies, plans, and procedures for multiple power generation and EfW projects.
  • Lead and manage commissioning teams on-site, including engineers, technicians, and subcontractors.
  • Oversee all commissioning activities, from system energisation and functional testing through to performance testing and client handover.
  • Ensure strict adherence to health & safety, environmental, and quality standards.
  • Coordinate with project stakeholders to resolve technical and operational issues.
  • Report on commissioning progress, key milestones, and any risk areas to senior management and clients.
  • Develop and maintain commissioning documentation, including procedures, test sheets, and final reports.
  • Support training and handover to permanent site operations teams post-commissioning.
  • Continuously review processes to identify improvements and efficiencies across projects.
  • Provide technical input during design, construction, and FAT stages to ensure commissioning requirements are built in from the start.

Requirements

  • Degree or equivalent in Mechanical, Electrical, Process, or Chemical Engineering.
  • Extensive experience in commissioning large-scale power generation, EfW, or process industry projects.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing multi-disciplinary site teams.
  • Excellent technical knowledge of boilers, steam turbines, balance of plant, and emissions control systems.
  • Proven ability to manage commissioning schedules, budgets, and stakeholder expectations.
  • Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental compliance requirements.
  • Exceptional problem-solving, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Willingness to travel and stay away from home as required across UK project sites.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.

  • Salary between £100,000 - £120,000 per annum, depending on experience.
