The predicted salary is between 48000 - 72000 £ per year.
The successful candidate will be responsible for working independently and as part of a legal team of circa six lawyers on a wide range of legal and regulatory matters relating to the foreign exchange sales and trading business, the research business and the portfolio solutions business (comprising currency management, agency brokerage and transition management) across the EMEA region. The candidate will need experience working with sophisticated business partners and institutional clients in connection with the offering of these product types in the EMEA region. The role is hybrid and the candidate will be required to work principally in State Street’s offices in Canary Wharf, London, UK (in accordance with State Street’s policies, as amended from time to time).
Qualifications and experience will ideally include:
- Solicitor or barrister qualified to practise English law (or equivalent status in another common law jurisdiction)
- Right to work in the UK
- Experience of practising in a major law firm and/or in-house working in financial services or another area of business law
- Expertise in dealing with ISDA master agreements and related collateral arrangements, bespoke currency trading agreements, currency management agreements, agency brokerage agreements and research services agreements
- Experience in advising on MiFID/MiFIR and EMIR
- Understanding of licensing laws relevant to cross-border activity in EMEA
- Track record of working in a high performing team and working to tight deadlines
- Strong and sophisticated drafting and negotiating skills.

What you will be responsible for
The successful candidate’s responsibilities will include the following:
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts and other documentation, including bespoke currency trading and currency management documentation, agency brokerage agreements, research payment agreements and netting documentation; reviewing escalation items from our negotiation team in relation to the ISDA documentation
- Collaborating with global legal colleagues
- Conducting, leading and training others regarding netting and enforceability reviews in relation to ISDA documentation
- Advising on applicable laws and regulations and carrying out regulatory impact assessments
- Providing legal analysis in connection with changes to existing product offerings and new product offerings
- Preparing legal analysis to be presented at internal new product approval committees
- Assisting with regulatory inquiries
- Providing legal support to global business colleagues
- Managing consultation processes with external legal counsel
- Ensuring all internal legal templates, policies and guidelines are understood and implemented and are up to date against applicable legislation.
