Mayals Primary is situated in West Cross, Swansea and overlooks Swansea Bay. We are a school that prides itself on its ethos, environment and the desire to do the very best for all within the school community. We are supported by our excellent, committed Governing Body and a dedicated, enthusiastic and talented team of staff who work hard to ensure our pupils receive the best possible start in life. The head teacher and governors are seeking to appoint a highly motivated and skilled person to the post of Deputy Headteacher to join our friendly and professional team. The right candidate for this post will have experience of teaching and leading a subject, key stage or year group. They must have a proven track record to be able to plan strategically to manage, motivate and inspire teams of teachers in innovative strategies to improve learning and teaching. The Governors are seeking to appoint a well-motivated and outstanding teacher with drive and enthusiasm to the post of Deputy Headteacher to commence on 1st September 2025.

KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Support the Head in delivery of the school vision, for all learners.
  • Be able to lead the school in the absence of the Headteacher taking operational decisions, including on learning and teaching, health and safety and safeguarding.
  • Be able to lead a strong management team in driving school improvement through effective self-evaluation and action planning.
  • Take ownership of evidencing our improvement of outcomes for all learners.
  • Attend governing body meetings.
  • Attend events, supporting the school and community.
  • Manage and motivate the support team, including TAs, lunchtime staff and all support staff.
  • Have a commitment to continued professional development for yourself and others.

THE RIGHT CANDIDATE WILL

  • Be an excellent classroom practitioner.
  • Hold as a minimum, a B.ED or B.A & PGCE or equivalent & have at least 5 years' experience in teaching and leadership.
  • Show enthusiasm and commitment for working in partnership with children, staff, governors, parents and the local community.
  • Be an inspirational, supportive and enthusiastic leader who can also work as part of a team and inspire children and staff to reach their full potential.
  • Be able to work with children and staff to initiate and drive successful change across the school.
  • Be able to explain, utilise and implement the primary curriculum, using principles of teaching, learning and assessment and an appropriate range of methods and techniques.
  • Have the ability to utilise educational and multi-agency networks to initiate and develop positive changes.
  • Work alongside the headteacher to lead and drive the changes required in education in Wales to embed and improve the curriculum required for the Twenty first Century.
  • Have an up-to-date knowledge and understanding of the National Mission for Wales.
  • Play a significant role in the strategic direction and life of the school using energy and enthusiasm.
  • Be a caring, reflective, and excellent practitioner who truly places the wellbeing of our young people at the heart of your approach.
  • Have a passion for teaching, and high aspirations for all pupils.
  • Have demonstrable management, leadership skills, and excellent verbal and written communication skills, inter-personal and organisational skills.
  • Know how to design, plan and provide inclusive, authentic teaching and learning experiences which enable children to realise the four purposes in their learning.
  • Have an innovative, collaborative and creative approach.
  • Be committed to high standards of teaching and learning and the professional development of staff.
  • Have confidence understanding and communicating data in relation to pupils' progress.
  • Be flexible and forward thinking in your approach.
  • Be able to assist the HT in major developments and key responsibilities including the expression and utilisation of data analysis that secures and underpins school improvement.
  • Be able to explain, utilise and implement the range of approaches used in self-evaluation in school improvement.
